Long-Term Running Goals: QUALIFY AND RUN IN THE BOSTON MARATHON. Personal: I am 27. Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.
Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010
Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -
We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -
The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes
"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi
"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

| Say it ain't so, bro! Worst performance ever in a 15k. I got there and it was humid. I had driven since 3am, so maybe that was a factor. Met Lindsay at her friend's house and we loaded up and got dropped off at an exit ramp and walked to the start with bibs. I was not a huge fan already with so many people. Slipped down an embankment trying to find a place to "water the trees". Had a good starting corral and started off fine, but once the furnace got cranking, I couldn't stay cool and overheated. Ice chips came far too late (at mile 7 or so). Got passed by almost everyone in the golf course. Lindsay flew past me. She had a great day. Funny my PR is 20 MINUTES faster than this "glorious" performance! oh well. Stuff happens. Onwards and upwards!

| 7.1 in 1:01:43:00. Wouldn't know I bonked a race 2 days ago! Feeling better. Got to remember to stay hydrated and hang tough in workouts mentally. That is the biggest challenge. Good things are on the horizon. I can feel it!

You have started at 5 and worked down before, this time start at 1 min hard/1 easy, and work up to 5, then back down to 1. Goal here is on the way UP for you to be hitting half marathon pace on hard, on way down crank them to 5km pace. Try to keep easys at marathon effort. |
I think the more you do time intervals with using marathon pace as the easy the more muscle memory you have for that pace. |

Don't feel well. I did 4 hours of stacking wood outside this a.m. My weight this morning was 225, i drank 4 nalgene bottles of water during wood stacking.. then the workout 7:30s on way up 7:00s on way down, i kind of tripped and fell at the end . ending weight was 215. that ain't good... |

2 mile warmup, 8 miles at GOAL Marathon pace, 2 mile cooldown. |
You can split this has 2x's 4 miles at goal marathon pace if you need to. 3:55 MP pace below, you can probably do 3:50 |
