Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

9.15 6 miles easy 6.1 in 49:00 and then cruised in from there. good work...what you thinking for that 50km? doing it? Would be good traing for 6 pack, 50km then 2x's 5-7 mile runs the next day. Sounds good. Have to tell Emm though and send in my registration today. My legs are kind of tired. I pushed a little harder than normal on some of the longer runs these last few days. Got to work hard though for a breakthrough. Not having a treadmill sucks though... I have after school til 540 today... I might sneak out during "planning" time to do the run because I hate running in the dark unless on a closed course. I can't see! When will the parts come in? Jake Not sure. Most likely not this week the guy said because of last week's holiday. It's 7-10 business days.. and then I have to try to put the whole treadmill back together myself which might be hard to do. Part of me wants to call an expert right now and set it up.

Running in the dark at the track. Layered up with short and long spandex. Didn't think I would run as fast as I did. Total time was : 37:26 for 5.1 miles (5 mi split 36:47). 8:05, 7:23, 7:14, 7:12, 6:53 for the full miles. I didn't feel like it hurt at all. Felt kind of refreshing actually.

6.5 6 x 800s @ 3:45 each one Day #341: 6.5 miles in the dark at Taconic High School. Took advantage of the 38 degree temps and ran in short shorts! 48:54 for 6.01 then 1/2 mile cool down. Splits were: 8:40, 8:18, 8:19, 8:10, 8:00, 7:23. (8:08 average). Great work. You should do well at marathon. Is your sister cool with it if you "ditch" her after the half way mark? Jake

28 West Palm Beaches Marathon w/ my sister who is running her first marathon ever!! Our goal she decided is 10 min miles. I think she can do it! wish I knew you were doing this earlier! it was one of 3 I was looking at, picked delaware. maybe you should skip that 50km? keep wifey happy. if you had 2-3 weeks prior to a fair course marathon you got a 330-340 in you. how did your sister feel with her 6:11? If she interested in a sub 6 or faster we could coach her and give you a discount for a month for referring a friend.

Had to walk to starting line near a mile away. Got real hot about mile 15 or 16 so we started walking from there. Finished though! 6:11 final time.
