Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

4:30 PM - Exhausted last night. Woke up and went straight to work cleaning the house with Emm. We vaccummed out all three cars and cleaned them bumper to bumper (I made $4.47 in change I found under my seat! Woohoo!). Cleaned the dishes, mowed the lawn, cleaned the overhead fans (all 4 of them!), then I emptied the pool and we did a bunch of other stuff. Basically went straight from 8:30am to about 4pm. Emm is still going. I'm going to go make her dinner.

Well my all too short summer is over, and I start tomorrow bright and early on my first full year of teaching. I am nervous but it is good I know almost everyone there anyways. I won't be able to drive the 2 hours to NY to race the 5k series, so I wanted to do a 5k time trial and see where I'm at. Was pleasantly surprised with my speed.

Ran it all @ 2% incline. Felt strong and wasn't trying too hard. I was breathing hard towards the end. Cooled down with a mile at about 8:30 pace.

Hit the first mile in about 7:03, then second mile in 6:40, and hung on for the third mile. Total time was 21:45, good for  7:00/mi average pace.

Total Time: 30:00 Total Distance: 4.10 miles Average Pace: 7:19

Wow, great job. Also, good luck at school tomorrow. What grade are you teaching?

Great job Benn! Good luck with the start of teaching, those kids will learn a lot from you (and maybe the other way around too!)

Nice job on the time trial. Really tough on the treadmill to hang tough to the end.

HC: solid run, and good luck this year; it'll be great...

as far as the yasso 800's, i have done them in the pass, and whereas i don't necessarily think that they are the magical marathon prediction tool that some think they are, i do think that they are a good workout to try. given today (yesterday's) time trial, i'd think that 3:30's might be a tad bit ambitious to try for the 10x800, but admittedly, i never did the yasso's correctly (i always ran the recovery laps much much quicker than i was apparently supposed to). that being said, if you take the full recovery (one lap in the same time it took for the previous full 800), you could probably have a good workout on your hands. (i say go for it, and hold on for as many as you can!)

I agree, John that it might be too ambitious. I think that I might try to do this workout just to see what if feels like and to try and have "fun" while I'm running. :D I would think I could hit sub 4:00s though for the workout because that would be 5 miles of 8:00/ pace. Only one way to find out!
