Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

This is what I have been waiting for all year - the return of Benn the runner! Way to work hard and have fun...

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 11:16:33

Awww thanks WILL! I still have to remember to take it easy. I think what I want is to try to stay around the 30 mpw range and see how I feel. You've been logging killer miles dude! Hopefully next year I can focus on a 1/2 or something. for now I'll try to regain some fitness

From Lybi on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 13:32:58

Benn, I really admire how consistent you are with your running. You've got the tenacity to be a fabulous distance runner, that's for sure!

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 13:39:24

Or at least a professional bagel eater :) Jogging is the only thing keeping me from blowing up like the Goodyear Blimp!

Great workout. Sleep is so important in training. Your running is some cold weather there... way to stay dedicated. Do you have a lot of areas where your house is to run where the traffic isn't bad?

Nice to have a day-off on Saturday.

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 14:57:47

I live out in the country so traffic isn't that bad. Only two main roads. I run on the backroads and this week I've seen the same two school busses, and maybe 4 or 5 various other cars on the backroads. So I don't have to run with much traffic (at least if I go early in the morning). Afternoon runs are a different story.

Great mileage so far this week!

From marion on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:07:12

What school do you go to?

Great run as usual! How is the bagel count? SAVE THE BAGEL!!!

From Brent on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 22:08:53

Howling commando, nice consistent running. Those wow runs can be hard to get the foot out the door, they sure pay off.

Is that a new pic? Or maybe it's just the first time I noticed it. Either way, Emma is gorgeous!

And you may be a professional bagel eater, but I take the award in ice cream hands down :)
