Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

12:00 PM - Overcast, cloudy, temps in the mid 40s and winds of 10-15 mph. A little chilly. What a great run though! Had had a scripture reading in church this morning I think from Matthew 25 about a parable of 10 bridesmaids - moral of the story is that we have to be ready not just put up a facade. i.e. the minister mentioned the infamous "Jesus is coming! Look busy!" bumper sticker. I thought a lot about the sermon today as I was running. It was a very uplifting experience.

Bad part of the run today were the stupid dogs. No less than six dogs made lunges at me today. Too bad since we aren't in the village there are no leash laws! I really thought they were going to take a chomp out of my legs! Anywho, my legs felt amazing, maybe because I took yesterday off? Splits were insane!

WOW!!! That was a speedy little run you did. Glad to know the minister got you thinking, too. Having something to ponder while running makes the run so much nicer! And boy do I agree. IF EVER there has been a time to be prepared, now is it!

Here is a dog trick---run with BIG rocks in your hands. I hate when dogs treat you as their chew toy!!

From marion on Sun, Nov 09, 2008 at 16:38:47

Sory about the dogs! :( That is one thing that makes me REALLY angry.

Sounds like a great lesson in church today. That is one of my favorties! It's a really great reminder that everyday, every little thing we do should be a reflection of our Savior. We must always, be working at being our very best :) Great way to start the week :D

DROP DEAD AWESOME SPLITS!!! Holy Cow!!!

From Brent on Sun, Nov 09, 2008 at 16:56:49

Holy Super Howling Commando - with those kind of splits, maybe we can play like superman and turn back time, pretty sweet how your splits are getting faster and faster. By the way, I am challenged with dogs on a regular basis, altought there are leash laws for the parkway, only about half the people comply. I always carry peper spray when running, you never know. I have a real crazy story about a German Shepard, pepper spray saved by butt.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

Kelli - I heard on NPR they were talking about treading softly and carrying a BIG STICK - That might be difficult to do while running, but even if I can carry a stone or something to scare them off it would be better than getting bitten!

Brent - I have no doubt you and me can super bike the world back to Spring :-D

Marion - I totally agree. It really puts into perspective how we must always stay focused on the prize at the end. We can't just sit there and expect things to change for us, nor can we just jump up and start looking busy when the time approaches. It's a lifetime goal we all have to work hard to meet.

As for the "drop dead awesome splits" I hope I don't drop dead but that I start to steadily improve! I am hoping 2009 is a great year for all of us!

Very nice run! Very good pace! I would say you were very, very fresh.

I told you that you can definitely lower your times if your consistent (or something like that). Nice Job! Your going to out do me in no time.

From The Howling Commando on Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 07:00:31

hahahah funny, Kory! No way I'll ever be that fast :-p

From wheakory on Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 11:00:01

Don't kid yourself, because in my lifetime I never thought I would be where I'm now. Your going to look back on what you started at and be amazed at where your at in a year or two.

Trust me... just stay consistent.
