I live in upstate NY. I am the oldest of four kids. I've been running since the spring of 2003 when I decided to shed some extra weight and maybe go out for my high school cross country team. Currently am doing MS in Education. Hope to teach Social Studies one day. I have the most amazing girlfriend ever, and she frequently goes running/jogging/hiking with me. Going to marry her one day :)

10:00AM - did an easy 6.5 miles on the treadmill.. started reading Nathaniel Philbrick's novel about the Essex; Felt good except that my left quad was a little sore (probably from 3 hours in a car right after running the 11miler yesterday). Overall though, felt relaxed and comfortable enough.  Taking the rest of the day off to rake leaves, help with my brother's Eagle Scout Project and then home to study for two tests.

Total Mileage: 6.5 miles  Total Time: 51:00  Average Pace : 7:50/Mile

7:30PM - Wasn't feeling too hot, my legs were a little sore, but my brother made a comment about how I looked "fat" in a picture.. so I took it to heart more than I should have I guess. (I'm sure he meant it as a joke, but I was always heavy as a kid and I'm really self-conscious about my weight hate my physical appearance :()  SO I hopped on the treadmill and did another 2.2 miles, a little too hard probably for my sore left quad. I am trying to keep the mileage going but need to make sure I take it easier pace tomorrow.

Total Mileage: 2.2 miles  Total Time: 18:34  Average Pace : 8:26

Benn, in response to your note, I have run 52 or 53 marathons since I turned 50 when I ran my first one in 1997. The fastest course in the country is St. George, Utah, but it is a lottery. I got in 5 years in a row, but have not made the lottery the last 2 years. I did a 3:15:56 back 5 years ago in St. George. The course starts at the 5,240 foot elevation level and drops down to 2,680 foot level elevation, a really fast course. You can see the course elevation map at the link: http://www.stgeorgemarathon.com/race/courseinfo.php Enjoy, Paul

Sorry you don't have running partners. It is a help, but if you want us to push you more on the blog, harrass you something fierce, we could oblige!

Don't slack on your miles this week!

Don't let other determin how you fell about yourself. It needs to come from inside. Besides I think you look great in your blog picture, I love the hair. And I think picture add 10 pounds. Your bro is probably jelous of you bulging calf muscles. Self esteem pass it on.

Benn, impressed you have read about Salazar and Beardsley. Your on the right track with this blog. Lots of great runners and advice.

Benn - how much do you weigh, and how tall are you?

From Michelle on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 16:06:34

Oh kknow Benn Sasha is "weighing" in on your wt. You'll now have the official results without question! (He,He!)

Thanks for the insight from the kids perspective a nice way to look at it too!

I hear you about running partners too, I have had one, once a week for the last two weeks and besides that I'm on my own.... I am mostly jealous of all the other runners that run together, but I also use the time to sort out a lot of things and usually come home with better perspective and such. I also use that time to plan my day and decide what to fix for dinner.... maybe I think too much! Maybe I'd be faster if I'd just get it done? Who knows!

But that is what is great about the blog, everyone keeps us soooo motivated, it really helps! Happy running and Happy Thanksgiving!

From Benn on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 17:15:28

I'm 6'1" just shy of 6'2" and 165 pounds, have been 166 or so for the last 3-4 months.

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 17:24:07

Your weigh is fine, maybe a bit too high for a runner, but do not worry about it. Just eat healthy, and train, and it will settle down where it should.
