last long run before 30m race in vancouver. i would have liked to have gotten in a longer than 12m run last weekend but the weather was questionable and yesterday was horrendous thunderstorms. it was about 75-80 and i decided to take one of my hip belts that could hold extra water bottles. i'm not really a fan of the camelback because it's too much to run with something covering your entire back and it's easier to get problem chaffing areas with so much surface area. i brought 5 water bottles, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, 2 cliff bars and a cliff shot. i got dropped off at huntington to start and i quickly realized how disastrous it was going to be until i drank 2 bottles worth. i was also carrying my iphone so holding 2 bottles was out of the question. i basically was running at 12min pace with the belt bobbing up and down and trying to navigate the muddy and rocky terrain. i knew it was going to be a long day. no shin or hip pain or anything for the start of the run which was good since i haven't been stretching. i ran out of water after 3hrs. at about mile 18 or so. the shin started to hurt (really the muscle) at 3hrs but i stretched it and it helped. no real problems until mile 20 and then it was kind of a death run. i ate the sandwich and one bar but i should have eaten more i guess. i got to mile 22 about 1.3 miles away from home and called for someone to pick me up. i was done. could i have run another 8 miles today. definitely not. i think i'll be fine though. not anywhere close to my best but fine enough to not have a bad time. i'm very glad the race is not 50m. saw 2 dead snakes. yet another water snake. making 14 for the year, 11 alive.
