4hrs 17 mins. the trails were a bit icy in places but there were fewer people which was good. i didn't feel myself breaking down this week after mile 20 and i wonder how much of that is fitness vs having a pair of shoes that supports me better. i definitely could have run much farther today without much distress. i took about 450 calories on the run and began to feel hungry only in the last mile. this run bodes well for mt mitchell i think. now i have to worry about not getting sick.

The farthest I have run since before my injury (before christmas) is like 11 or 12 miles lol. And before that since the marathon the longest I have gone is 15 or 16. I should actually take in some calories and hammer out at least a 16 miler soon. On my diet I hit the wall on 10 milers. But I will probably wait another 2 weeks. This week I race the mile, then next week will be a cut back week mostly because I am going home for a few days. But as my weight continues to come down I look forward to facing off vs. you on some trail races this spring. I still hate giving full efforts at distances below 10k because of how much it hurts. So I will wait until I am fully peaked to run a fast 5k. Hopefully that dave zucconi race is at a good time for me. So far it hasn't been scheduled.

Damn, and you beat me on mileage for the week because of this run. That was sneaky. You said you were gonna run 25. I calculated it out and was like, ok, no problem, still more mileage than bedoukian. But then you came in and sniped the weekly mileage.

i'm not scared of you...if you want an early season showdown i'll be at northern nipmuck on april 11th...now that i'm running more miles than you i can sleep more easily :)

i mean you should beat me with your new slim physique...and i'm pounding myself with several ultras this year. are you going to run the nipmuck marathon as well?

I might not hit my goal this week (I think I am pretty much on track but with water weight and what not it doesn't always pan out). I officially started the diet on a monday so we'll see tomorrow. Once I hit 150 I think I will slow down the weight loss to 1lb/week. I have yet to show any real measurable performance for longer distances that says I am in any better shape than I was for the marathon (at which time you surely could beat me at any trail race). Of course I have been fairly calorie depleted for my workouts despite trying to take in a few extra carbs 2-3 hours before the workout. We will see. I would be smart to wait until soapstone to challenge you. The course is much more my kind of running than any of the others I know of. But I will probably be there for northern nipmuck. I take my boards on april 25th and then go on a trip to italy. After that I start 3rd year and the schedule is such that there is no way I am gonna be able to run as much as I do now (12 hours/day in the hospital + studying for tests). I am contemplating taking a year long hiatus from competitive running just because I would hate to go out and not be able to get any PRs because I can only manage 50 miles per week in the few days that I have enough time to run. Good thing I finally figured out how to control my appetite. Dropping mileage significantly would otherwise be a total disaster. You know I would rather kill myself than be really fat.

I'm not losing any sleep over that .1 mile or whatever it was. I have consistency and intensity (workouts) over you by a lot right now. String together 4 or 5 weeks of high 70s to low 80's and I'll start getting worried.

On second thought, maybe I should only challenge you if the weather is warm enough to go shirtless. Or just go shirtless despite the weather, lol. The sad thing is that optimal running weight for me would probably be more like 130, but I'm not willing to lose that much muscle.
