Goal Type:

Boston Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

6 marathons- Chicago 2001 (3:57...my goal was 5:00!), Chicago 2002, Venice Italy 2003, Okinawa Japan 2007, Okinawa 2008, Gold Coast Australia 2008

Plenty of half marathons, 10ks, 5ks, etc. Some PRs, some age group awards.

My most significant & defining running accomplishment was being named "Most Dedicated Runner" every season that I competed on my high school cross country team. A decade later, I still try to live up to that award!

Short-Term Running Goals:

Get closer to my marathon PR and eventually bust it!

Be more competitive (in time and in spirit) in shorter races.

Run a marathon before June 2009.

Run another marathon before Jan 2010.

Run at least 4 days a week.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Boston Qualifier...even if it takes me til I'm 80!

"Run" a triathlon.

Married, no kids (other than the 17-20 in my classroom!)

I'm a military wife.

Went for an evening run today since I spent my normal running time doing errands at the post office, bank, commissary and outdoor rec. And I spent the afternoon baking cookies. So far 3 dozen candy cane cookies and 2 dozen nut cups.

After snacking on dough and the cookies that were too ugly to share with guests, I felt like I really needed a run! I'm glad I didn't wait until tomorrow. I ran 7 miles and it was dark during the last half. I'm not good at running in the dark because I am a fraidy-cat. I'm not afraid of the people that are out, I'm afraid of the cars and the curbs and the snakes and the bats, even though I've never seen a snake here and I know the bats won't hurt me. They love to swoop and they are humongous!

Here's a funny thing about my run: All of the streets on base are named after military guys...except one. It's called "Rolling Heights" and it's very clear why. There was another route I could've taken, but I was hit by a momentary bout of crazy and decided it would be "fun" to lug myself up Rolling Heights. Crazy! I'm glad I did, though, because so far the familes on Rolling Hts. are the most well-decorated as far as Christmas lights go!

Came home and went for about a quarter mile cool down walk with my husband, then sent him to pick up our dinner...Japanese fast food tonight SO good and much healthier than its American counterpart--salad, rice & curry. Mmm!

Good job already getting in a evening run on Thur. I am still just getting to work in the morning. Great job on that hill. Crazy or not you did it.

You're in Hawaii, right? I'm guessing that you actually did the evening run on Wednesday and because of the time zone difference, the blog thought it was Thursday when you posted.

Great job attacking Rolling Heights! It sounds challenging. And the bats do sound scary.

That is a tough trade off skiing at night in 9 degree weather or running where ever you are it sounds warm if bats are out flying and there is the chance of seeing snakes! both are good!

Oh, the treats sound so good! You need to move here so we can share treats!!!

Hey, I was looking at your other BLOG and we like the same socks (asics)!!! They are the best socks ever. I knew I liked you---you are smart!

Good job on the run, hills and all.

Carolyn--not Hawaii, Okinawa Japan. It's so tiny you can barely see it on a map. 78 miles long and 2-18 miles wide. It's Friday here now. I am 19 hours ahead of Hawaii and 16 ahead of Denver (I think).

Kelli--I love the socks!! I used to not be particular and wear Target boys department socks. Now I will never wear a different pair of running socks! I think I got 10 pairs last Christmas and I was over the moon!

After I wrote that comment and logged off and shut down the computer it occurred to me that maybe you were in Japan. My mistake.
