Okay then, this is a bit daunting!

I want to add a comment to a blog, and in attempting to do so, I end up with my very own first ever, brand spankin new blog.  All of my very own!

The daunting part is that I'm supposed to log MILES, and yes, perhaps this is just the kick in the tail I need to get back so some semblance of racable running.  And yes I made up the word, "racable," but it OUGHT to be a word, and if you have a blog who is anyone else to tell you you are incorrect?  Exactly.  So, may I go post that comment now?

I ran with Willie and it was late and dark and I almost stepped on a dead snake  :O  Willie was no help with the attack of the Wild Boar... I mean, my neighbors' dog who bites shoes.  Hilly, like 700 to 800 feet, but this is just in my neighborhood.  Points counted off for it not being a trail.   My idea of speed training is when I have little bursts of speed when the dogs chase me in the dark.   I am thrilled to be back at it!!!!!

maybe points counted off for not being a trail, but bonus points to you for braving the pavement/asphalt jungle with all the wildlife contained therein...

The Georgia variety of beasts is particularly frightening.

From Nevels on Tue, May 25, 2010 at 12:17:19 from 131.204.15.93

i agree. (but being from mississippi and currently living in alabama, i've dealt with my fair share of runner-hating dogs and other wildlife...)

and if you're from GA, i'm assuming the 40-miler you've alluded to in the "Running Accomplishments" section is the Pine Mt. 40. i've heard good things. by chance, have you done SweetH20?

From twistedsister on Tue, May 25, 2010 at 12:44:40 from 69.40.27.10

My 40 miler was Uwharrie a few years back. Great race. I'd love to do Pine Mtn one day tho... I haven't run sweeth20 YET, but I want to. I'm just now getting back, so I need goals. You ran sweeth20?

From Nevels on Tue, May 25, 2010 at 13:01:12 from 131.204.15.93

i ran SweetH20 last year (couldn't make it over there this year), and it was pretty fun. the GUTS group puts on some good races over there, and there are plenty of good races all over GA.

if you're looking for ultras, i mainly know of the ones in AL, such as Mt. Mist 50k, Dizzy 50's, Pinhoti 100, etc. (all of which are worth running, in my humble opinion...)

the races i've run in GA include the Red Nose Marathon, Make It By Midnight Marathon (co-RD'd by the blog's own Deborah), and SweetH20, and i thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

as far as finding a good goal race, the GUTS website has a good calendar (http://getguts.com/events.shtml), as does the huntsville track club (http://www.huntsvilletrackclub.org/index2.htm), or you can always check the ultrarunning calendar (http://www.ultrarunning.com/calendar.html) for a slightly broader range of events...

good luck

So if you live in Huntsville, you know DeWayne Satterfield. My buddy, awesome runner. He comes yearly to run my race, the Twisted Ankle. Unfortunately, he brought heat and humidity with him (gotta blame someone!)... Come on up and run next year!

I would love to do ultras again, but it's going to be a while before I'm ready.

From Nevels on Tue, May 25, 2010 at 13:13:12 from 131.204.15.93

yeah, DeWayne has been beating me up for several years in the ultras. i have meant to get over to do the Twisted Ankle for a couple of years and it just hasn't worked out yet.

a guy with whom i run pretty regularly ran the Twisted Ankle this year and did decently. Eric Gilbertson. keep an eye on him in years to come; i suspect he'll start blowing folks out of the water...

that dessert is WHY I run, awesome!

Three. THREE!  Oh man, I forgot what it was like to be a beginner.  The first mile my calves hurt...I don't remember having that before.   Very hot but nice breeze.   I've got a lot of work ahead of me!  I just want to go out for an easy 12 in the woods....
