2013 Races:

May - Pittsburgh Marathon (started, but DNF about the half way point)
June - Riverview 5k  - Bummed I missed signing up for this one. It's one of my favorites!
Sept - Gatorade/Steelers 5k. (Signed up!)
Sept - IKEA Montour Trail Half  (prob not, but leaving it on here)
Sept - The Great Race 10k (My Running 101 goal race)
Nov - Dirt Monster 5mi (Gotta do it again no matter what!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Finish recovering from my injuries and build mileage.  That is all.

Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

I was wishing I had the external battery pack like RT has when I went running today...or that I had simply charged my Garmin.  It read low battery, but usually I get my run in without it dying. I died before my 1.5mi turn around on the trail.  It didn't feel like it, but it registered 8:21 for the first mile.  I was feeling 10:00 pace.  It was so hot and humid!  I'm not ready for this weather yet.

After the Garmin died, I was so hot and thinking about Boston.  I couldn't imagine running that far in crazy heat.  As I was thinking that, I came around a bend in the trail and I see a small woman in a track suit standing near some trees getting professional photos taken with the Pittsburgh skyline in the background.  Plus, there's a videographer from KDKA taking video up the trail where I was coming from.  A group of people stopped from their run/walks standing there on the side of the trail watching her.

I figured this had to be the elite female Marathoner for the Sunday race.  She looked really shy, though.  She didn't seem to like the attention and all the looks.  I thought that was really strange, but I kept running, wondering if I'd be on TV.

Walked past the newstand today (Friday) and see this article on the front page!  A really sad story (with a happy ending), but that explains why she seemed so shy.  Hopefully she will do well on Sunday!

Great article. It looks like she finished well in the top 10 ladies with 1:21:29. You should have crashed her photo session like Kim did in my finish pic at Big Sur :)

I just leave my garmin on the charger whenever I'm not using it so it's always ready to go. If your battery is going bad, I have a link on my blog for a dirt-cheap replacement(that actually fits inside).

Yes, she did very well. I could have crashed it, but they would have just not used that one. LOL

My battery still holds a good charge, I just leave the charger at home and bring it home every couple of runs to plug it in, charge, and backup the data. For collecting HR data and data points every sec, it lasts for several runs. Glad to know you have a link when I need it.

In your Marathon pics, I was looking for the solar panel powering your Garmin (or the pouch holding the batteries), but didn't see any wires so I knew you had come up with some solution. :)

If you set your garmin to do "smart" recording instead of every second it will last a lot longer on a charge.
