Started this race with not enough sleep, too much playing the last few days.  I immediately fell asleep on the bus and slept the whole way up today.  When I got off the bus I had a cramp right in my calf muscle, WTH? Before the race even started...  I swapped out of racing shoes and into my 16 ounce "fat man" Kayanos and did a mini warm up.  I decided this was what I was running in today.  Just too risky 4 days after a marathon to use flats.  Once we got going I let the lead group go and instead of hitting the early downhill miles fast, I ran them just under threshold, today that was about 5:25, and I didn't change the pace much through the race.  I did catch Walter around 4 miles which came as a surprise since he is just running so well this summer.  I also expected to hit a wall with the legs after Des News, but felt great the whole race.  What a beautiful half course!

Steve, you beat Lindsey by 19 seconds! She almost chicked you like she did me! I commend you on an excellent time for running a full 4 days ago! I swear Bart Yasso and all those books on recovering from marathons do NOT apply to you.

What's Kracken?

Nice job Steve! That takes some serious discipline, mind power and a little stupidity (please take that as a compliment) to run like that so close to desnews.

A lot of guys can't handle a 10K/5K double at a track meet - the marathon/half double in 4 days (with good times in both) is awesome! Good going Steve!

The things people say in porta potties...

GREAT JOB TODAY! It was nice to meet ya this morning. I had no idea you had just done a marathon, that is seriously impressive. WOW.

Thanks you guys! That half is on my list next year

I think you should do the FULL. Run the American Fork half instead. ;o)

The most impressive performance of the day, bar none! I am amazed at how you can run race after race like you do. Very inspiring to me. Well done!

Great job Steve, that is so amazing!

Kelli, no way am I running that course backwards at 2:30am with a headlamp and then back down. I did run AF half, with a little extra as I went off course...

Rob, haven't you seen Clash of the Titans where Liam N. yells, Release the Kracken? :-) Anyways I deleted my porta potty comment.

Walter, I wouldn't mind getting chicked by Lindsay. What a run! A few years ago I finished the 3M half in a group of 3 Ethiopian women who caught me at mile 12. I was new into running really so I felt on top of the world finishing a 1:12 half with elite women, it was just way out of my league.

So cool to run a small local race where a woman can put in that kind of time.

Thanks Fritz, I really know what you mean! I was thinking about it the whole time, just taking it easy and holding a level pace. Didn't want to experience another UVM.

Marlin, I need to call you sometime when we are up in Idaho and catch a run

Another quality race. You are a animal when it comes to recovery and racing. blowsmymind!

Very well done Steve. Is this a PR? It's faster than any half you ran last year right?

From Marlin on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 21:00:36 from 174.27.64.141

I would like that Steve, Let me know when you can make it up!

From Steve on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 13:44:57 from 12.171.31.2

Riley, results just posted, at 1:10:45 it's a PR for me. Pretty cool with that!
