I had a work trip out of Salt Lake this morning and this race fit in right before it, since it's on the circuit as the last one I drove down an hour early for work and sqeaked it in.

After two twenty milers this week starting base training and a 50 mile R2R2R of the Grand Canyon coming up Saturday I decided to enjoy this today and pace a 5:45. It was nice to finally get to enjoy a 5k instead of killing myself. The course was much improved over last year and it was a lot of fun to see the lead pack going out so fast. I know from other 5ks around the country that I've ran, that our competition here is so much better. Awesome to see so many bloggers running so well.

I had to take off immediately after the race and fly to Lubbock, TX to pick up the Kansas State football team and take them to Manhatten, KS, which I didn't even know existed before today. Since the team was looking at a three hour delay I was able to get out and get the rest of my run in to try and hit my 100 mile week.

Almost made it..

Steve, Thanks for the motivation today even if I didn't know who you were. Sorry we didn't get to talk after the race. I took off to go cheer in my wife. You have had an amazing 2011 and I'm happy that you took it easy on me today... I will keep my eyes out for those shorts in the future. Also, I like your Churchill quote to the left. I have that above my bench at work.

Glad you got to enjoy a 5k for once! R2R2R sounds fun.

Another Churchill quote I really like...

"I can consume massive quantities of alcohol all day long and still kick Hitler's a**"

Just kidding - I made that up. But it's true.
