I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

Yoga this morning, minimal amount of work accomplished, then off to the mountain to practice skate ski for Sunday's relay.  We still have 30 feet of snow on the mountain, and it was snowing today!  I don't believe that it will ever be summer this year.

This is about a 10K course, very very challenging.  I have raced this leg before, so I know that is challenging.  Tons of big hills.  I figured that, even though I have lost much fitness in the past few weeks, and also many muscles, I could gut this one out on determination and technical skill.

My lungs just could not handle the effort, and I didn't ski today at race effort.  Lungs were hurting, and the hour I spent skiing ended with a huge coughing fit, that lasted until I got into the sauna.  I am canceling my participation in Ski to Sea this year, just doesn't seem like a good idea.

A sad day, but I'd rather give this one up and be able to do some other things that I'd like to do in the next few months.  That's how it works, right?  I trade this one for other things?  I hope so.

I think canceling your participation in the race is a good decision. You need to let your body recover.

And I'm wondering if summer will ever come to. Actually, I think we'll continue cold and rainy and then all of the sudden it will be hot, with nothing in between.

sorry you had to make that decision, but it sounds like it was a good one. there will be other things to enjoy this summer. feel better soon.
