I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

HaHa.  I just read my post from yesterday, and its clear that I'm getting freaked out about all the things that could go wrong with the marathon!  Its good to get the anxiety out of the way early I guess.  Here are some of my positive mantras:

  1.  I am getting good training from experienced people, who have helped many people successfully compelete marathons.  I am fortunate in this.

2.  I am a capable runner, and have proved myself to be competent at many distances.

3.  I have set reasonable, attainable goals for myself.

4.  I have ample mental resources to succeed in a marathon.

I know that I'll feel better after tomorrow's long run:  5 miles easy, 10 at MP, 5 easy.  It will give me some confidence.

As per Carolyn's advice, I enjoyed hot chocolate before bed, and look how much sleep I got!  Yes, its cold enough here for hot chocolate.

Have a great running weekend everyone!

Good girl!

You are in an excellent athelete and are in great shape. You'll do great on both your long run and your marathon.

You are a fabulous runner and have worked super hard and done consistent training, you'll do great!

Good positivity. Did the New Kids on the Block make that word up?

I"m going to steal some of your mantras. I'm getting nervous about my 1/2 race. Mostly b/c I'm nervous about what the weather will be like. Anything above 75 and it seems like I die.

From Snoqualmie on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 13:54:47 from 24.18.192.33

Mantras/affirmations rock. Here are a couple more:

"I do not seek a life which is free from all problems. Instead I choose to live a life of finding solutions and enjoying the benefits which those solutions create."

"I am in complete control of what I think and how I think. Therefore, I choose to think only those thoughts which help me and which are of genuine benefit to me."

"A day without sunshine is like...night."

From auntieem on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 15:58:04 from 67.182.145.8

Sno: That second one is very, very like one of my daily ones! I think I'll have to rely on these to hold myself together during the next few weeks!

JD: And night is like, well, dark. And gloomy and sad. And not sunny.

Rocket, Burt, and Carolyn: Thanks. I get so wierd on days with no running. I eat (which is good), fret (which is not), and shop (which is neutral).

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 16:18:57 from 24.8.167.243

If "a day without sunshine is like...night," then "a day without snacktime, that just isn't right."
