I'd blog and run more this evening but I have found a new project for my other hobby!  I restore antique radios and yesterday I ran across an old 1936 RCA tombstone radio.  Got the power supply functioning today with a new line cord and tubes seem to be ok so far.   Now Im waiting for parts to recap the rest of the circuitry.  The cabinet is in remarkable shape for it's age with only some lemon oil needed to bring out the veneer.  I know.. kind of a strange dork hobby, but it's mine and I love doing it whenever the opportunity comes around.    This will definitely help me cope with taper madness..

My dad would love your hobby. He's big into radio.

There used to be a museum here in Logan filled with antique radios and other sweet gadgets. But then the owner died, so they shut it all down. Somers Museum.

Allie-Thanks, I like it and I hope one day I can do it part time for income. One day though I will own my own repair shop.

Paul-That's too bad about the museum. Tubes have a warmth in sound quality that is not matched by modern stuff. What does your Dad do that is involved with radio?

Back then radios were a big investment and were like expensive pieces of furniture.

Very high quality workmanship before World War 2 with some even considered to be works of art.

Right now he owns and runs several radio stations back in Indiana. He got into radio back 40 years ago as a dj, and then got into sales, and then management.

I agree, nothing beats tubes. Especially for amplifiers.
