Marathon pace run on the 7th east and Trax loop course. This run after the first mile just felt better and better as I went, right up to the end.  Hit 5:45 split for mile 10 going slightly uphill at the fire station. Thankfully this is a significant improvement from the last MP run on this course for same effort level. THR-148-156 bpm. 56:51 for 10 miles. 1:16:50 total time for 13 miles. I did not even feel like I was gone long. Kinda like stepping into a time machine!

I read all the entrys on Alta Peruvian and you guys did a really awesome job. I decided to pass on it this year because I've read studies before where the residual muscle damage from such events can linger for weeks. So in order to be at maximum for the next two events I decided to skip this years party and to cut mileage gradually for the next two events. There is not much that can be done between now and St George that is going to make a hill of beans in difference anyway.

PM-6 miles easy on the treadmill.

See you at St George Steve, I won an entry so I'll be running it. Not sure what my goals will be.

From Jon on Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 15:07:31

What kind of time are you aiming for at TOU?

From ashman on Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 15:27:25

I don't know Jon. Depending on what the conditions are I am going to run between 5:40-5:50 for the first half and then relax for the rest of the race. If there is a good chance for prize money then all bets are off and I will run my guts out! I think I might run with you and Paul for a while if that is ok.

From Paul Petersen on Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 15:36:59

Steve - here are the top 3 prize money contenders that I know of:

*Hobie Call

*Ekekiel Ruto (Kenyan, took 3rd at SLC Marathon this year)

*Sasha

There may be more, that's just who I've seen on the registration list. I think if you run smart and conservative, there's a good chance that at least one of these three guys (if not two) will become roadkill or drop out. In particular, Kenyans often do not run well in Utah marathons. Anyway, I think you have a shot at some money if you play your cards right and eat up people who fall off. Your idea of 5:40-5:50 should set you up perfectly and keep you in range.

From Jon on Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 16:15:41

Steve- you are more than welcome to run with us, as long as you are happy with 5:50-6:00 pace. And if you make a move from our group before mile 17 or so, I will do my best to restrain Logan and Paul from going after you for a few miles. But no promises- those guys can be crazy fast when they decide to.

My opinion is that you guys should all be exempt from TOU prize money if you are doing St. George, too, but I only feel that way cause it is my only shot at placing.
