Easy to medium 10 miles with rollers and steady elevation change.  6:32/mile avg pace.  Ogden marathon course.  Brr....   Felt good otherwise.  70-75% mhr.

Read some weekly buisness news and became depressed tonight.  Yikes!!  Almost a TRILLION DOLLARS approved in this so called "stimulus" package.  Nothing but spending, spending, and more spending!  Only 12 billion of it is really going to be seen in the near future anyway. No wonder not a single republican voted for this. Gadianton robbers all of them they are, especially people like John Thain and that crook Tim Gheitner.  I have so much to say about it but I'm going to hold back because it really does not relate to the blog anyway. I just needed to blow off some steam.     What is happening to our country?

I was thinking about it last night. On one hand, taking away the money from people to spend on government projects does not sound that great to me. On the other hand, most people unfortunately would spend their extra money on luxury cars, expensive clothes, expensive entertainment, luxury homes, junk food, video games, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, etc. Most of that money will not go towards anywhere near some noble cause. So perhaps using it to build roads instead is not too bad of an idea given the circumstances.

When a dog behaves you can let it run without a leash. When it is a bit out of line you need a leash but it can be rather long. But when the dog is totally out of control you have to chain in to the kennel. When moral values are lost capitalism stops working, the only way you can survive is with the short leash of socialism.

Socialism? Sasha what are you saying? True socialism or marxism is impossible because of the very innate tendencies and corruptibleness of the carnal man you just referred to. Thats why the United Order didn't work! Mortal man is not capable of abiding by a true socialist philosophy.

And in such a case as history bears itself out it leads to the next step which is communism, totalitarianism, or even worse, fascism... You know the outcome as well as anyone my friend. Remember the old Soviet Union? It reminds me of the line from Orwell's "Animal Farm, Some pigs are more equal than others".. Freedom and accountability is the only way.

What's the world coming to. The choices that we make are the choices we have to live with.

Good training Steve.

Sasha-Who is worthy of holding the leash?

Darkhorse-You are putting in some serious miles my friend!

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 12:02:29

In a democracy we elect the leash holder.

From air darkhorse on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 12:26:27

We the sheeple are just led to believe that.. The corporate masters and special interest groups really choose the candidates. LOL!!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 12:48:02

Yes, but they have to chose the ones that people will vote for. In the Soviet Union it was a different story - you had only one candidate chosen by the Communist Party. In the last election here we had about ten or so on the ballot, but for some reason we limit our choices to the ones that can afford large media campaigns. Thus it is all fair. A TV nation deserves to be ruled by TV clowns.

Point well taken Sasha. I agree somewhat.

Not sure how to respond to Sasha's comments, as they kind of make me sick. The stimulus package makes me sick too, especially since the bulk of it is going to just plain spending and bloat (much less going to things like building roads than originally promised). The first "stimulus" failed, and I don't have high hopes for whatever this is supposed to me. Usually I'm more upbeat, but this kind of ticks me off.

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 13:24:32

To clarify my point. Failure to be responsible leads to the failure and eventual rejection of the free market. Something has to come in its place, and whatever does will result in a shorter leash. The economic crisis and everything else is a direct consequence of our failure to be responsible. It is time to pay the bills, we have hit the wall, you cannot cheer-lead the country into a sub-6:00 mile pace. Some of the politicians obviously know nothing about the marathon, and if they do they miss the connection. Train better next time, but for now be thankful for every mile under 8:00.

Interesting theories...

Personally, I'm for investing in food storage. I just hope I don't have to run to the store for 5 dollar a gallon milk and a ten dollar loaf of bread in the next few years.
