AM- Very tough to get in mileage lately mainly because of not getting to sleep till late. I still managed to pull in a 6 mile progressive run. Done not so much for any particular energy system, but mainly to practice form and relaxation at different paces. A distance workout at marathon pace will be done tomorrow. Ran 2 miles at 6:00, 5:50, 5:20 and 5:21 respectively. Not bad considering a very short warmup period. 5:20 pace on a 1% down at 165 bpm average. Fitness is definitely coming back but I must get in longer runs for sure. Short two a days don't cut it in the marathon. I think if can get in two fifteens and an 18-20 miler every week from now on I might see some real substantial gains in the next month. I might have to run TOU more for the mental preparation than anything, but I worry as to it's lingering effects leading up to the St George event. Getting the workouts as close to race conditions as possible will be key to maximizing performance.

PM-More easy miles to put in the bank. 6 easy on the road at 7 minute/mi. pace. Felt pretty loose and fluid tonight. Did some stretching tonight on all the major muscle groups.

Steve, reading your blog, lingering after affects from TOU? Have you ran TOU then ST.George before, same year? Me and Sylvia are doing TOU and ST.Geoge this year. Having not ran TOU before, we are doing TOU as our last long run for St.George. The real question in my mind, not worrying about any BQ or special Olympics qualifier, is it reasonable to run marathon pace for the first twenty miles at TOU and then finish without lingering after affects for St. George? Your thoughts?

Steve - I will be running TOU as a long workout. It's likely that I will drop out if the pace feels too hard after Mile 22, but if I feel great, I will probably jog on in. (I do the maps, so get a free entry. Use it or lose it!) Anyway, you are welcome to run with me and Jon. We will be cranking out 5:50-6:00 miles steady.

Brent - I think if you run MP for 20 miles and then "cool down", you should be fine, as long as you have a good base. This would not be a whole lot different than running a 30K race. A bunch of us ran the Striders 30K this year 3 weeks before the Ogden Marathon. Seemed to help, not hurt. The only key is to control yourself and truly turn off your jets at mile 20.

It has been a while since I have run Hobble Creek, but I remember it being a parachute drop. I am just looking to turn it over for a few miles and then maybe suffer a little bit. All in good fun!!
