AM-Accidentally put Monday's mileage on Sunday. I was in such a rush that morning... Ran 8 miles this morning easy, no time, just enjoyed the run.

PM-4 miles easy this evening around the neighborhood. I can't afford to taper much this week as this has been bad for me in the past on the third week before the marathon.

So you are for sure running Salt Lake?

From ashman on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 12:34:41

I am planning to, yes. I am waiting to hear back from someone on some backing for the race entry and some new racing flats. Are you looking to run it also?

From ashman on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 12:50:11

I have a better chance on this course to run a PR than Ogden.

From Paul Petersen on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 12:56:21

No, a pack of wild dogs that shoot bees out their mouth couldn't get me to run SLC. I've been running downhills pretty well this year, so Ogden is my race. But I haven't registered for anything yet.

From Dave Holt on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 13:09:11

So Paul, I am guessing you have some hostility toward the SLC?!

From Paul Petersen on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 13:40:55

Paying $100 to run a slow urban course isn't my cup of tea. Plus all of Devine's races have terrible reputations. If SLC doesn't turn things around, I imagine this will be its last year.

From Paul Petersen on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 13:48:35

Hmm...I'm being a bit of a negative-nellie. Sorry about that. I HAVE considered running it in the past, and this year the prize pot should be achievable for a local runner, which makes it tempting. But I just like the vibe of Ogden better.

Again, sorry about being unnecessarily harsh on the race. I'm sure it's pretty good.

From Scott Browning on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 14:13:52

I have to agree with Paul, I cannot see Salt Lake surving another year. Ogden has a great feel and treats the local elites a bit better. I think you, Steve, will run very well this year in Salt Lake, your training has been quite impressive.

From steve ashbaker on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 19:26:42

Yes, generally I think that Ogden may be a faster course for you guys. The reason I say Salt Lake would be for me is because the varying changes in terrain are better for my legs. The steep downhill nature of Ogden canyon pounds the heck out of me. I feel that my running style is just better suited for Salt Lake.

From steve ashbaker on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 19:38:03

As far as the prize money goes, Top of Utah offered less and they still got very good runners. Devine racing had the LA marathon this year also and they got good performances... I would like it sure, but I also know there is more than a good chance that I will not receive any. I want a PR and I want to do it here for a certain member in my family that passed away recently.

From Paul Petersen on Fri, Apr 06, 2007 at 19:45:25

Steve, I'm sure you'll do great! Your training has been impressive and you have earned a big breakthrough PR. I'll see you tomorrow at the striders race...
