I was not sure about this one but it had been two years in the making. In 2010 I had attempted a Timpanogos summit with a friend. We went a bit late in the year and there was too much snow and it got really bad when we got to the part with the most scramble. We couldn't see the top and cold fingers and toes turned us back. Well after many failed attempts with schedule conflicts we decided to give it a go today. Now I know this was not the smartest thing to do the day after a half marathon but it was worth it. The weather was perfect and we had a great time. The bonus was I did get to soak my legs in the ice cold runoff on our way down...

No I didn't jump just forgot to restart the Garmin after our summit break for about half a mile. All other breaks I did not stop the Garmin so the time has those other breaks included.

So glad that you didn't jump!

Great Post-race recovery day! That is what I am talking about! Great job on the half. Pretty good for the first race back. My prediction for TOU - 2:42, but who asked me?

From Andrea on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 09:43:18 from 72.37.171.52

Glad you made it and had a great time!

From Jake K on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 09:52:02 from 155.100.226.191

I say anytime you get to spend a day up in the mountains, it IS the smartest thing to do! :-)

From Adam RW on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 09:58:55 from 155.101.152.123

Cody, I think looking at my 2009 training compared to this year you are spot on. The thing I have to remind myself is that in 2008 when I ran the sub-2:40 I had been doing the training I've been doing for the last two months for two years. Also, if I honestly assess my 2009 season I ran the TOU 1/2 almost 2 min faster and only managed a 2:49 so a 2:42 would be huge in a side-by-side comparison.

Andrea and Jake, I see why you two always make time to fit in your trips in the mountains. There is too much beautiful scenery to not be out there.

From Adam RW on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 10:00:39 from 155.101.152.123

What is the general assessment of Utah Valley half versus TOU half? I did at least run TOU 1 min faster.

From Jake K on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 10:06:43 from 155.100.226.191

UV has ~125 more elevation drop and the only uphill is at mile 3 instead of mile 11... so I would say TOU 1/2 is a tougher course.

Andrea ran both last year - she can weigh in...

From Andrea on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 10:08:03 from 72.37.171.52

Utah Valley is much easier, in my opinion. Just the fact that the only hill comes at mile 3 instead of mile 11 makes a huge difference. Then add in the extra elevation drop...

From Adam RW on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 10:08:22 from 155.101.152.123

I forgot to check the course tool. Sasha Science has UVH ~45 sec slower...

From Jake K on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 10:10:00 from 155.100.226.191

I'd say it should be the other way around

From Andrea on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 10:10:39 from 72.37.171.52

I guess Sasha Science doesn't take into account mental fatigue!

From Adam RW on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 10:11:00 from 155.101.152.123

I agree. Every prediction with a grain of salt. This is definitely the type of thing you can over think...

From Jake K on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 10:13:41 from 155.100.226.191

Yeah - I mean, they are all in the same ballpark. If you look at the marathons on the predictor tool, they are all pretty much the same (except StG).

My take is that your run on Saturday was a better performance that UV 1/2 last June. So that's good!

From JD on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 18:07:21 from 75.169.94.41

looks like an awesome day in the mountains - nice job getting out there!

From Jon on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 20:16:27 from 98.71.131.64

Did you start at Timpanoogee (sp?) or aspen grove?

From Adam RW on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 20:20:05 from 155.101.152.123

We took the easy way out this time and started at Aspen Grove, last time we started at the other trail head that is now under construction.

However, the experience really made me hungry for more... Our initial plan was to do Kings Peak this summer but we never made the time. Hopefully next year.
