Good morning all. This morning was chilly. The internet told me 10F windchill. I overdressed just a bit... It was cold but with how much I wore I was sweating by the end. I did the run I planned on for Tues. I'm proud to report that it was faster than Tues and I finished it. Not by much but with the extra 50lbs of clothing and cold it was ok. Also, because I was not focused on going faster I was just lost in thought. I went to a career development seminar on staffing and managing a lab and it gave me a lot to think about. So I ran into Memory Grove the commute route from home to work. Avg. 10:10 HR 127 (1466ft of ascent)

Good morning to you, too.

From Aaron Kennard on Thu, Dec 03, 2009 at 11:17:57 from 174.51.250.151

That run, especially your stats, looked very similar to my run yesterday in the snow...except your HR is about 20 beats lower for the same elevation gain and pace. It's pretty clear why you can run so fast, I'd love to get my slow pace heart rate down that low...its a slow process it seems.

From Adam RW on Thu, Dec 03, 2009 at 11:31:29 from 155.101.152.103

Thanks Aaron. My HR is all over the board some times. My races I keep it over 170. I've been doing distance for over 15 yr now so yes I'd say it is a slow process.

I like the pics you posted of you and Nan. You are sure tough to run in the snow with those 5-fingers. Do you still have all your toes? I would say the extra 20 bpm you have are your heart trying to get blood flow to your toes :)...

From Aaron Kennard on Thu, Dec 03, 2009 at 11:44:26 from 174.51.250.151

Yes I do, fortunately! But I do admit that when I started the run I wondered if it was possible to not get frostbite and I thought for sure I would turn back...amazingly my feet were warm and comfortable the whole run after about the first mile or so. It really felt the same as any other run. There definitely must have been a lot of blood pumping to my feet to keep them warm though.

Adam, Aaron and Nan you are inspirational.

Great running there Adam, running is great to clear the mind, especially when you can run easy nice h/r too.

although I had to deal with wind chills of -1C ha ha not that im boasting or anything. :)

From Adam RW on Thu, Dec 03, 2009 at 16:58:30 from 155.101.152.103

Sam, Are you boasting low or high? Because 10F is -12.2C...

Looks like the training is going pretty well for you right now. You did escape from that dog I sent after you a few days ago, but I figure it was fair game after you cut the brakes on my bicycle.

It's this time of year I miss running with you most--when it gets dark early. I've been hitting pretty good mileage, however, since recovering from the accident. School is a lot less stressful now....If only I could find a job for next year!

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 03, 2009 at 18:38:33 from 128.196.228.134

Hi Adam, it looks like your week is going better!! good! I miss that run (though I don't miss the temps -- except in the summer).

From JD on Thu, Dec 03, 2009 at 18:43:56 from 70.96.78.157

You're obviously a very talented juggler.

From Adam RW on Thu, Dec 03, 2009 at 21:28:13 from 24.10.175.42

Dennis? Who's that? Are you waiting until Jan 6 2010 to start blogging again? Your mom told me about your 5K. First time through though she subtracted a minute so I was initially a little impressed... Be careful what you wish for when it comes to a job. You may actually get it. But as a lawyer you may also get a salary compared to this fool who went into academic science. Give me a call this weekend to catch-up.

Bonnie, Great to hear from you again. Memory Grove is great except that headwind on the way up. Are there any good trails out your way now?

JD, Two is ok, but when you try and take on three balls it is hard to have all of them up at the same time.

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 03, 2009 at 22:17:54 from 64.119.33.134

Hi Adam, There are some nice trails on this side of town ... there is one about 1/2 mile from my house that reminds me of dry creek canyon - the footing isn't quite as good, but it isn't nearly as steep either. About 3 miles from my house (hard to run to though because is is on the other side of a pretty big mountain) there are tons of trails that wind through the Tucson Mountains and Saurago National Park ... you can find hilly tough trails to pretty flat dirt single track. It is pretty cool. You guys have to come down here sometime -- there are some nice races here!! Tucson marathon is next weekend ... just saying.

From Dennis on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 15:47:33 from 143.115.159.54

Yeah, the 5K was poorly organized (a closed gate that we had to run around/over/under in the first 600 meters, poor course markings, an out and back section where people didn't know runners were coming back the opposite direction, no 2 mile mark, etc..) That being said, I think the course was a bit short also. I was pretty happy with my time considering, and I think I could go sub-16 right now in the right circumstances. The plan now is more racing and to do a marathon next fall. We'll see how it goes.

From Adam RW on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 11:29:20 from 155.101.152.103

Bonnie, I'm glad that you still have some nice trails. That has to be one of the top perks of living in SLC and having left that I'm glad you found some substitute. We'll see when my next travels take place. Tempting as it is, my travel is pretty limited lately :(...
