Yes, it was me - that crazy runner girl wearing shorts and a tank top to run a bit more than half a mile to the gym, work out, and run back to the office in 30 degree weather and windy and cold and dark... talk about a way to get noticed! I had two options. One, walk to the gym on my work clothes, which would've taken me about 20 minutes, change there, shower there, and walk back to the office. Two, run to the gym, work out, and run back, shower in the office where it's nice and clean, get changed, and head out to my friend's house. I chose option 2 and survived!

Did 30 min on the elliptical, 20 min on stationary bike, and 15 min on the machines.

Does anyone know which bike type is better? I feel like the ones that make you be more vertical, with the regular bike seat, are probably a better workout than the ones with the wider seat where you're more sitting down horizontally... any ideas?

My gym only has one bike. Its a very small place, but has a big pool. Anyways, its a wind resistance bike. The more effort you put in, then harder the resistance. No free wheeling on this one. So you have to work the entire time. But I do not use the arms part. I just cross them across my chest and pedal on.

WOW that sounds hard core! I try to use my arms more on purpose to tone them as well as my legs... i wonder how much it works - I just engage them and push back and forth against the "handlebar"...

I knew a personal trainer who thought that way too. He said something about you engage more when you're sitting up. I don't know for sure though.

How was the hot date?

From Scott Zincone on Sat, Dec 06, 2008 at 09:23:18

I am not coordinated enough to have my arms swinging back and forth while pedaling. I have wondered though if it helps my core muscles by sitting upright and balancing my self.

From marion on Sat, Dec 06, 2008 at 19:20:37

upright has more core work involved.

Your awesome! How is the metal free mouth feeling? Are you sore at all anymore?

From Brent on Sat, Dec 06, 2008 at 20:00:10

Rocket, ARC machine if your gym has one, best cross training I have found. Holy cold, running in sweaty clothes in 30 degree weather back to work, sounds like a race you have to win.

100 commando points for the dedication to get a workout in.

Thanks guys - I thought the upright was better for the core, thanks for confirming it.

Brent, what's an ARC machine?

Mike, the date was fun! You know, guys always seem normal for the first few dates... then you see what they're really like :)

Marion, I'm still sore and still can't open my mouth very wide, but it's getting better every day!
