Ran home from work in the afternoon - juuuust as the storm was starting to develop. It was amazing. I left the office and the sky was cloudy and dark. It was raining a little and very windy as I was on the Rock Creek Parkway. As I ran by the softball courts before the Jefferson Memorial, the sun came out, and a full double-rainbow suuuuper bright was right in front of me - all the tourists were taking pictures, it was an amazing sight. Two bands of rainbow right in front, with the sky darker in between them, and the rest of the sky was blue. hard to describe. One of those moments I wish I had a camera with me... The rest of the run on the mall, i kept wishing it rained some more to cool off the air, but it wasn't that hot.

My legs felt really flumsy and didn't feel good up till the very end. I really need to get a new bike so I do more cross-training. Right shin hurt, left was OK.

I am sorry to hear about you shin, but it sounds like you had a good run with a view. I did want to ask you are you taking any ibuprofen? The doctor told me to take 800mg of Ibuprofen three times a day for a month, that helps with the swelling. Also I wanted to expand on something I told you earlier about resting and shin splints coming back. The reason why you get shin splints back after resting with no cross training is because the muscle is not flexible, so when you start running again the muscle will tear the first time you use it. But if you keep active with cross training the muscle will be more flexible and will not tear. I sure hopes this makes sense, if not let me know and I will try to explain it better. I hope this helps.

Thanks Barry! I have to say, I'm not a big fan of taking ibuprofen... I do take it sometimes when I feel the muscle swelling a lot, but think that maybe taking it that much and that often is not necessary and may be counterproductive (for me, that is - if your doctor told you to take it, I would of course follow his recommendation).

I hope you are right about resting and cross-training... Unfortunately for me, the pain still came back after resting and cross-training. But maybe I didn't do enough. Good luck!
