A beautiful, cloudy and slightly windy morning in DC - 36 degrees outside. Perfect for a run to work. So I did. Woke up a bit late so I had to take the short route, but it was good cause I'm worried about my right shin. It hurt a bit but not too bad.

I'm wondering what muscles does a spin class work? Why don't I feel sore after a spin class? Or is it mostly the cardio that is exercised and not so much the muscles? I feel like I'm using the right tension... maybe since I bike so much my muscles are already worked up...

...or maybe you are a rock star!

From Lucia on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 10:33:05

Well that goes without saying Burt! :)

I do feel it during the class, don't get me wrong... I'm out of breath and going as hard as I can at it, but unlike with running, the next day my legs don't feel sore or tired...

From marion on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:37:13

I have no idea about the spin classes. I am afraid to go :D But hey- waht a bout the shin? Have you checked into it to make sure you aren't getting reinjured? (sorry to be a poop on your parade)

From kungfublonde on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:40:42

Burt is right, you're a rock star. But spin class doesn't make me sore either. Except for my knee- it totally kills my knee. The class is a lot of work for me, but I'm never that "good workout" kind of sore the next day. If I set the elliptical on high resistance and a high incline, THEN I get sore.

From Lucia on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:43:04

I know, Marion... I think I'm going to give it a bit more time and only run every other day for another week to see if it gets better. The pain is different than before, and on a different area of the shin - doesn't feel like shin splints, so if it doesn't get better I'll go back to the doc, or just rest it and cross-train on my own for a few weeks...

Rachel, that means we are both rock stars!

From montelepsy on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:44:37

It makes me sweat a lot and hurts my bottom. I think it's supposed to work your quads, though.

From Lucia on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:47:20

Mike, are you refering to spin class or to when Rachel asks you for money? Hahahahaha!

From marion on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:54:21

Bahahahahahaha! Lucia, you are FUNNY!!!

From montelepsy on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:55:44

You're silly!

From kungfublonde on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 12:09:04

...why would I ask...?

From walter on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 23:02:25

You need spin classes to help your cardio. Its got less pounding action to help you take a day or two out of your running schedule which is good right now with coming off your injuries. I know you want to go out and get 80 mile weeks, this will keep your mind off those miles and help you transition into running more miles. Go get em tiger!

From Kelli on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 21:10:25

I so want to try a spin class!! I bet your body is just used to biking---you bike a lot. Plus you are just a very in shape woman, nothing makes you sore!

From walter on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 18:57:42

Luce, what the heck happened to our buddy Jill? Did you go to lunch with her lately?

From Lucia on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 08:53:36

Kelli you should totally try one, it's fun - just make sure the instructor doesn't put on country music!

Wall-e, I don't know whasup w/Jill, I e-mailed her but haven't heard back. She's probably busy with the holidays and stuff. I'm glad you are doing better! You'll be running soon, and my braces will come off in one week, December 1, freedom day, yeah, 12 days before my 31st birthday!!!

From walter on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 09:30:35

Wow, too bad you couldnt get them off before Thanksgiving.

From Lucia on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 09:32:49

No joke! They're bothering me now more than ever, cause I can open the mouth, eat and talk more, so the braces rub more against the gums and walls of my mouth and I have sores all over... naaaaaasty, eeeeek! But, on the other hand, brushing my teeth is heavenly!

From w on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 10:31:29

You can buy some wax to put on the metal so it doesnt rub on your gums. They sell it at pharmacies.

From Lucia on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 10:46:04

Dub, I got 3 packs of that and my entire mouth is coated with wax. Too bad it doesn't quite smell like a candle...

From w on Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 10:58:42

Maybe you can stuff a wick in it and have a little decorative mouth! lol Dont kiss any guys with braces right now. You will lock! ha ha
