Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

First 20-miler in a long run!  It was supposed to be a progressive long run with the last 6 miles progressing 7:45x2,7:35x2,7:25x2.  I didn't finish quite as strong as I would have liked but the wind was causing me to struggle with the pace.  There was quite a strong headwind from the south that I would loop into for about half the run and I would really have to fight to keep a faster pace.  I would break out of the wind and try to make up for lost time but the last 4 miles fatigue was definitely messing with my head a bit.  Drank about 40oz of gatorade throughout the run for fuel but I am starting to think that may have been insufficient-especially since my last gatorade stop was at mile 14, I really could've used another one later on.  The sun was out and it was 67 degrees!  I wore shorts and a tank top and sunscreen!  I haven't been this hot on a run in a long time! :)  After my 20 miles was finished I wasn't home yet and I was beat so I stopped and walked a quarter mile and then realized my head was getting foggy and if I wanted a drink anytime soon I better at least jog so I staggered another .5 home at about 9:30 pace.

Splits: 8:51, 8:47, 8:45, 8:31, 8:30, 8:13, 8:20, 8:03, 7:51, 8:10, 8:14, 8:19, 8:29, 8:22, 7:45, 7:49, 7:28, 7:40, 7:31, 7:20    --8:09 average pace.  Goal for my 22 mile progressive run in two weeks is to beat the 8:00 girl.  Oh yeah and my ITB didn't bug me at all!:)

And, in other news, my interview went GREAT and I am scheduled for a second one on Tuesday!!!

Wow, an amazing last 6 miles after already running 14. That south wind crushes me every time, must be something about the Plains. Although it looks like you fought it off better than I do. Good inspiring run, I'll channel it tomorrow...

Sweet run! What a great confidence builder!! 40 oz of gatorade would not get me through 20 miles though. My head would be spinning at the end too. I like to eat solids and have gatorade, but I have a pretty tough stomach. And I'm not ashamed to take plenty of potty stops either.

Whoa, you rock!! I think you had an AWESOME run!! And I think you finished very strong, too!! Positives all the way around, good news about ITB. The wind helped make you stronger, tho I'm sure you cursed it at the time. Even finding out how your body reacted, needing more gatorade, etc., is great info for you to know for next time.

Really, 69 & sunny?!? We woke up to 9 inches of heavy white stuff here! :)

Great news on interview, too!

nan - don't tell burt about your iron stomach and potty stops or he will flip.

great run today, april. you just keep getting faster and stronger and it's exciting to follow your progress. 3:15 at eisenhower is all yours. great news about the job interview, too. best of luck to you on tuesday.

awesome april!! uhh we ran the same pace for our progressive long run, we should be virual partners. I too will shoot for that just under 8 avg pace next time thinking of my virtual partner April :D. WIND always puts a damper on our speed. and darn the snow here. you are lucky you got a nice shorts day again. 40 ounce gatorade? oh my I would have to stop and pee a gazillion times. I should start practicing again with good fueling. Hydration is key but who likes to premeditate drink drop offs as to not carry a huge gatorade.
