Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

9:19 average pace.  Still quite sore today and didn't think it was a good idea to go 20.  I thought I would recover quicker.  Guess not.  My hamstrings are still screaming.  Okay, 20 days away from the marathon and I am starting to wonder if it is getting too close to do a 20-miler?  Although I would feel undertrained without one more really long run.  I don't know what to do.

Hi April. My opinion is to do one more long run, if possible this week would be better. Go slower but go the distance.

You can do it!

I think Eric's right. Get out and do a 20 miler this week.

Doing this 20 miler is not a race--just go out and do it and don't worry about how slow you're going.

I totally agree. Three years ago I got my number to SGM three weeks before the race. A woman gave me her number she won at a local race cause she was pregnant. SGM let me change it to my name because it was the 30th anniversary and they were more lenient. I went out a couple days later and ran a 20 miler as a one mile loop, passing my house 19 times before finishing on the 20th lap. Oh yah!! I did it this way so I could "quit" anytime. I hadn't done anything longer than 15 miles weeks before then hoping I might get in to the SGM. I ran it at 9 min/mile. Ran the SGM in 3:46. So not bad. And YOU are way more conditioned than I was that year. If you go slow just to teach your body to burn fat you will be way better off. Do not go into anaerobic metabolism. Maybe pick it up the last few miles but not too strenuous. Good luck!!
