Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

8:43 pace on zero incline on Kim's treadmill.  I was exhausted from yesterday's events.  I was at work when my husband called and said he had gotten a call from our 15 year old saying the house was on fire. He told Jesse to get Nick and Ian and get out of the house.  He was stuck in traffic and couldn't get there and for a while we didn't know if the kids were okay or not.  My partner drove me in the ambulance to my house.  We all got there about the same time.  Turns out him and Ian had been sitting in the living room when he looked up and couldn't see out the window because of thick smoke.  He called David and then him and Ian ran out of the house and found Nick by the attached garage which had flames wrapped around it.  Nick and Ian ran to the neighbors and Jesse got the hose and started watering the fire.  The fire department told us that with the wind howling the way it was yesterday, we would have lost the house if Jesse hadn't acted so quickly. Nick was playing with matches he got out of an old MRE he found in the garage and had started the fire.  He had some singed eyelashes and hair but no burns and was okay.  He is in soooo much trouble but at least everyone is alive and well and I am very grateful.  We lost a few garage walls but that is nothing, it could have been a lot worse.

Oh my gosh April; that is so scary. I am so happy that everyone is safe. Just unimaginable what you must've gone thru! You don't mention Vanessa? Was she with a sitter?

Thank goodness Jesse responded well by getting everyone safe, then using the hose. I'm glad the damage wasn't any worse.

Yeah, now you have to turn this into a good "learning experience" for all involved. . .

Take care; I bet you are drained.

Oh my gosh! How scary! What a rush of emotions, too. On one hand you're so thankful no one was hurt. On the other hand you want to kill your kid.

From KP on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 13:48:59 from 65.208.22.25

Wow. You are very fortunate that it is only a few walls in the garage. How scary! I can't believe you got a run in today... I guess it can be a bit of a stress reliever.

From SlowJoe on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 13:54:14 from 131.59.200.80

I'm guessing at least that you'll never have that problem again since it probably scared the you-know-what out of all the kids! So there's another positive. Glad all is well now.

Oh my heavens, April! That is so darn scary! I am so glad that everyone is okay and that your house is good. what a disaster, and what a scary thing for all of you!!!! Wow, I can not imagine how panicked you must have all been. And, kids!!! Darn them, they get into everything. That is why God put them here, it seems.

So glad you are all okay. That is so stressful on you all. HERE IS A BIG HUG!!! Pass it on.

Holy moly! I'm sorry to hear about the fire--but glad you have a quick-thinking kid!

And I'm sure the fact that Nick's in "soooo much trouble" is probably an understatement.

Hugs from me too! I'm sure you'll have more headaches from this, but I'm glad no one was seriously injured.

Adele--David had just picked her up from the sitter so she was with him! The boys had gotten home from school not 30 minutes earlier--didn't take Nick long to find trouble...

Burt--Yeah now that he has survived the fire he has to survive me

KP--totally needed a little stress relief!

Joe--Nick set a trash can on fire several years ago. I thought he learned his lesson then. Now he is required to go to a class for minors who have set fires

Kelli--very scary, kids can really bring out some animal emotions

Julie--thanks!

Tracy--Nick is toast

Allie--thanks!

Wow. That is intense. It sounds like it was dealt with very effectively and saved you a lot of potential damage. I'm glad you are all safe and that no cars exploded or anything.

Nothing like burning half the garage down to teach the kid a lesson! I remember the fire fascination when I was a kid. Luckily my pyro experiments never got out of hand. It may be a good idea to have him help pay for the repairs and restore what was ruined.

OH man, I bet that is an interesting class!

Holy moley April. How scary and what a relief that everyone is ok. Poor Nick, I am sure he must feel horrible ... I am so happy that all of you are well.

From ChrisM on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 15:30:02 from 217.42.248.214

Yikes! Good that they acted quickly and prevented it from being much worse, and I am glad everyone is ok
