Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

7:53 average pace.  Felt great, the weather was beautiful, foot felt good, just had to cut loose and run a little brisker so I did.  First mile was in 9:00 and last mile was in 7:03.  Got the bandaids and tape right so no ripping skin today:)

I'm so glad to hear that your ripping skin is NOT ripping any more :p YUCK! Great pace. You are doing so well :) don't get too crazy with the speed :) When is your next race?

Next race is Aug 8--my first 1/2 marathon! 9 days! You are right about the speed--I just need to put the brakes on and run slow for the next 9 days, sooo hard to do. I think I will also taper just a bit next week--my foot will probably appreciate it. I don't really know how to taper, just run less mileage all week or cut back big time the last 3 days or what?

For half's, most runners only taper the week of the 1/2. Many runners do not taper for the half's at all. I suggest a 6,5,4,3 off, race- kind of taper, but you may want to ask a "real" runner ;D

My original plan was to skip the taper, but in light of my little foot problem decided that a taper couldn't hurt and might be helpful. Maybe 10,8,6,6,2,race? The 6,6,2 days might drive me crazy...I keep telling myself no pressure I am just running this for the experience but deep down inside I know that once I get out there I am going to get excited and try to beat everyone I possibly can and will probably run pretty hard.

April, great negative splits.

I like to take the day off before the race. Rest, eat good carbs, enjoy the family, etc.

Maybe taper 10, 10, 10, 6, rest, race, rest (or easy jogging) !
