Ran a local 5K (Woods Cross Memorial day "fun" run). This race is pretty low key and usually dominated by the local high school kids. Warmed up by running from home to the starting line (1 mile). Didn't feel great so didn't go into the race with high expectations. Lined up towards the front but still had to fight through a big crowd of slower runners once the gun went off. Hit the first mile in 6:06. Instead of hitting the lap button on my watch, I hit the stop button. Didn't realize it until about 1/4 mile into the second mile. I estimate that I ran the second mile in 6:20. Wasn't overly fatigued but I just could not get into a rythm. Third mile came in at 6:21 and last 0.12 in 0:43 (5:57/mile). Final time: 19:33 and 11th place overall. Finished up by running 3 easy miles. I didn't put in the effort that I wanted. I was hoping to really push myself and make this race hurt. I still have to work on my mental toughness to push harder when I start to wear down. |
