Yesterday's storm left the roads very icy.  I ran the first 3 miles at a pretty relaxed pace then picked it up a little.  After a few miles at the quicker pace I hit a section that was either too slippery or covered in snow to maintain a decent pace.  This lasted about a mile until I was able to pick it up again.

Yeah it was very icy this morning. Glad you were able to have another great run.

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 13:39:23

It's near impossible to do tempo or fast pace runs with the road conditions we had this morning. That's the beauty of winter training in Utah...varieties.

Glad you got the 8 miler done. The road should be good for the rest of the week.

From Rhett on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:50:03

Yikes, sounds like an injury waiting to happen. I'd be hitting the treadmill. Good job finishing all 8.

I pasted your Q&A regarding the Irongym here:

Smooth - do you know anything about the Irongym bar? I saw one at Walgreens for $20. I didn't get it because I thought that it may ruin my door or not be effective because I am too tall. (Sorry to hijack your blog Rhett).

From Teena on Dec 09, 2008 at 15:42:47

Andy, you should get it. That's what I use. It's not ruining my door at all and Ryan is using it as well (he's about 6' 3"). $20 is a steal ... mine was $30 at Dicks Sporting.

Andy, here's the one I'm looking at http://www.tryirongym.com/?mid=526262 It's an As Seen On TV product. This one doesn't ruin doors. My son-in-law uses it. He's 6'4" and finds it pretty effective. Not sure how high his doorway is though.

Andy,

Yep, that's the same one I use. Love it.

I'm with Rhett in regards to using the treadmill during such conditions. DON'T GET INJURED!! (like I really needed to say that ... )

Nice mileage, AGAIN! You just crank those 8+ milers out like they are nothing.

(btw, how are the pecs/lats coming?? you still cranking out those pullups?)

From Andy on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 16:08:38

Teena - No matter what the conditions are I will always choose running outside over the treadmill. I have 2 of them and they both go unused (although they are great for hanging clothes on). I'll go get the Irongym tonight. Doing a couple of pull ups in the middle of my run isn't a very effective way to get those massive pecs that I'm shooting for.

From Kathie on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 19:15:35

I ran outside today (Davis Blvd) and it was OK. I ran around 12:00 so I didn't have very much ice. the only scary part was when the road narrowed for the bridge and the sidewalk was not plowed so I had to go in the road, I ran that part really fast so I wouldn't get squished.
