Leg still hurts. Almost stopped running after 1/4 mile but decided to play with the pace to see if I could find a pace that didn't hurt too bad. Found that if I run slow (8:30/mile) then the pain is manageable.

With 3 marathons in the next 2 months, I have to decide how to proceed. Do I take an entire week off and hope the leg heals or run everything at a slow and painful pace and throw all time goals out the window? At the start of the year, I signed up for the grand slam with the goal of finishing in the top 10. Assuming that things do not improve, this is going to be difficult to achieve (currently in 6th with 11th just 18 minutes behind). I guess that I will just take it one day at a time.

My philosophy is move while you can. 8:30 pace is better than sitting on your bottom. You may want to add some weight/strength training to strengthen your body overall. Probably what is happening is the cumulative impact of the marathons you've run so far has weakened some of your support muscles, and from that point, everything goes downhill. If you strengthen your muscles overall, perhaps the body will find a different way to run working around the current injury.

Andy, did you determine exactly what is the injury? My thought, if you can determine what caused the injury, such as downhill, running on a camber, running on wornout shoes? Sometimes if I can determine the cause and change my running to avoid that specific circumstance, it helps. Lastly, I have ran thru many injuries, some you can, and some never heal without time off. This is a tough call. Good luck.
