Met the Marks (Fly and Huans) for a long trail run.  It ended up being much longer than I anticipated and I paid for it towards the end of the run.  We started at Mark's house by the capitol and ran on the BST.  I really struggled running downhill today for some reason.  Every time we would hit a downhill section Mark (fly) would fly down the hill and I felt like I was hitting the brakes too hard.  We stopped at Red Butte Gardens to refill our water bottles after 13 or 14 miles and I took in way too much water.  We started climbing a little hill and I could feel the water sloshing around.  I walked for a bit to let things settle in then started up again once I felt like I could run with out puking.  This is also were I started to run low on fuel.  I think that the inefficient downhill running took more out of me than I expected.  Despite the struggles, it was still a fun run and I look forward to more in the future.  I discovered that I am difinitely a roadie and that trail running takes a completely different set of skills.

Had a great run man. Sorry it wasnt totally clear on the distances. And those downhills were quite tough and different to what I was use too. After stuff like that it really makes me like running the roads even that much more. Thanks again for all the good advise and I feel faster already after running with you.:) Looking forward to our next run.

I agree with you that running trails are a different animal. I went on one trail run with Kathie and couldn't believe how much harder it was. I would like to do a few more this year because I think they are a good change to the same old road running I usually do.

How did the contacts feel today?

From Andy on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 14:43:35

Thanks for asking about the contacts. I have an ulcer on my cornea so I won't be wearing contacts for awhile. The eye feels like it's getting better but is still hard to focus when there is a lot of light.

Andy...

After hearing how tough the run was, I'm kind of glad I couldn't make it down there. If you guys were having a hard time, I probably wouldn't have made it to the finish. You guys are very impressive. By the way, don't they have a marathon that actually runs along that trail? Is it the Bonneville Shoreline Marathon? THat could be interesting.

Sorry about your eye.

Thanks for joining us Andy. Trail running is a bit different but you'd master it in no time. What do you say we run to Bountiful or from Bountiful to here next time?

From huans32 on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 15:40:33

I am up for that too. I can meet Andy and drop off a car at the ending and coming to your place Fly. And so we wont have to wait around and such. Great run again guys.

Or Huans could pick me up on the way to Andy's....

From DonGardinero on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 17:13:32

How far is it from Salt Lake to Bountiful?

From huans32 on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 18:14:12

I am thinking they said like 8. But I am not sure. You can make this as short or long as you want from the sounds of it. We just made it a bit longer.:)

Holy Schmack!! I have officially changed my mind ... I don't want to run with you diehards ever ... you'd kill me!! :)

Nice run though.

From Andy on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 19:53:51

According to the website it is 5.6 miles from the Eagleridge trailhead to City Creek. It actually wasn't to tough of a run, I was just having a really "off" day.
