Warmed up with 3 miles then ran a 4 mile tempo run.  The tempo miles were very inconsistent.  The first 2 miles were gravity assisted and the last two were relatively flat.  Splits were: 6:19, 6:25, 6:13, 6:19.  I have no idea why the second mile was so slow and why the 3rd mile was fast.  Cooled down with 3 more miles.

Nice job on the tempo run. I wonder if the garmin glitched on those middle 2 miles?

From Andy on Mon, Jun 09, 2008 at 16:21:45

It wasn't a Garmin glitch because I'm familiar enough with the route and it beeped when it was supposed to. I think I just fell asleep during the second mile and there were some cute girls that I was showing off for during the third mile.

Typical male -- showing off for the girls!!! LOL

Nice tempo run Andy. What race is next on schedule?

From Andy on Mon, Jun 09, 2008 at 20:26:46

Cal - I have a 5k on June 28th and another on the 4th of July. After that it is the Northwest Passage Relay then the rest of the Grand Slam (PC, TOU, SGM).

Good job on the tempo. Sometimes it takes my legs a couple of tempo miles to wake up. So what possessed you sign up for the grand slam? Deseret News isn't part of the grand slam?

From josse on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 10:22:19

Des News is part of the GS but there are 5 you can choose so if you can't make one of them you have an alternate. You only have to run 4 of them.

From Andy on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 11:03:22

I had a momentary lapse of sanity when I signed up. When I registered there was only one faster person signed up which was part of the motivation. Two more fast guys have signed up so my hopes of an overall award is out the window.

Des News is an alternate but if you run it instead of one of the main 4 then you are not considered for an award.
