Previewed the SL 1/2 course with Becky.  It seems like a good course although we skipped the final hill going up State Street.  While the majority of the run was at a comfortable pace, I pushed a couple of times going down the hill and it felt very good.  We did get lost once because the course description was not accurate.  Anybody familiar with the course?  Coming down 2700 South, the directions say to turn North on 1100 East but that is not possible.  Do you turn at Highland?  Averaged 8:49 for the run.

Yes ... it's Highland! :)

(At least that is what I remember.)

I'm toying with running it as well. I want to be there to see my SIL, Annie, finish her first marathon. This way I could perhaps run her last 6 miles with her (or more). I think she is shooting for 5 hours. Also, I want to see Karen run in (Smooth's friend). It is also her first.

So ... what did Becky think of the course?

She thinks the course will be a lot faster than Moab. The only issue is that her shin is starting to hurt. Whenever we were at a stop light, it was painful for her to get started again but felt fine once we were going. I am hoping that it is just her getting used to running on the road.

Heidi and I want to do this run on Saturday. We are only going to run 10 miles of the course. What ten do you think would be the best to run?

Kathie - Are you planning on leaving your car and taking Trax back up to the U or are you taking 2 cars?

two cars

The 10 mile mark of the half marathon is inside Liberty park. I do not know how safe it is to leave a car parked at the park. It may be alright. Another option is to leave a car at the Gateway and start at Foothill Village. I'm not sure if you have looked at the course map but if you cut out the out and back section on 2100 South by Sugarhouse park (turn at 1700 East instead) and do not do the loop in Liberty park than you will be really close to 10 miles by the time you get to the Gateway.

Hey Andy,

Does Becky work in SLC?

I could show her a few tricks for shin pain if she is interested.

She works at Primary Childrens. During the run, I told her she should send you an email because you know everything.
