Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

Horsepark loops with Jake, 10k. It was a cold drizzling rain at first then raining pretty steadily by the end of the run. Had it been the other way around, I probably would've crawled back into bed.

I tried running in moonshoes (Hokas) for the first time this morning and was honestly a little disappointed. There is so much squishiness - to the point where I felt like I was losing all of my momentum on every stride....kinda like running on really soft wood chips all the time. The shoe was not very flexible so I could feel blisters starting to develop on my toes, and I just didn't feel like I had good running form with them. I can see how they might be nice for a 3-4 mile shake-out but definitely not what I would consider a good every day shoe. I don't want to sound negative but I'm just not as impressed as I thought I would be. My opinion though, and I know several people that do love the shoe.

I just noticed your Cortana are "gravy" colored? :-)

I found to lack of flexibility to be a little odd when I was looking at them last night. I didn't really expect that, and I suspected that might be something you noticed immediately - but I didn't want to say anything and cue you into thinking that way. I admit that my arms are pretty weak, but I couldn't even bend the shoe.

Yeah, there was no way for me to really move the forefoot independently of the rest of the foot...a huge problem if you want to be able to push off effectively.

Not surprised -- Hokas seem close to equate to clown shoes to me.

The Kinvaras are about my upper limit of squishy, so I am guessing I would like the Hokas. How are they are slippers?

Hokas are incredibly awkward to get used to. I remember feeling the same way when I first got mine...thinking they were going to cause blisters and that I had to almost alter my form to run in them. But now I honestly love them and think they have helped my feet so much.

Jason - they are quite nice for walking around :) I can't do that though b/c then Jake would be shorter than me and I have issues!

Rachelle - do you do workouts in the Hokas?

No, I definitely only wear them for recovery/easy running.
