Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc. 

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - We decided to start late this morning so we could watch the entire NYC Marathon. 6.7 miles, half on soft surfaces. I have a couple sore tendons that need to heal up in the next couple weeks. 

The NYC Marathon results really just emphasized how important it is to not go out to fast, no matter how good you're feeling. I still can't believe that Mary Keitany ran 5:10 pace in the beginning; she paid for it big time at the end. She did give a pretty impressive "last chance" surge when the other two women caught her but just couldn't hold on. The mens race was run perfectly. They went out at a conservative pace and negative split. This method is going to be my strategy in two weeks!

that was a bold strategy for sure -- it's too bad she couldn't hang on. it was painful to watch at the end as she was slowly caught from behind. her surge was extremely impressive though, as she was clearly done at that point.

conservative early and negative split -- love that plan. two weeks! two weeks!

I cannot believe she was able to surge when they caught her. The look in her face was painful to even watch though. Definitely smarter to run even splits. It sounds like you have a very solid plan.

Great plan Andrea, every single record (be it course or world record) is done on either even or negative splitting. "Banking" time hardly ever works out.

Mary certainly had the half-marathon times indicating she can possibly run faster than 2:21 on a flat(ter) course, but not in NYC.

I thought Kim Smith did a great job pacing, and it paid dividends for her too!
