Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc. 

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

Wednesday Workout! I don't even know why I plan specific workouts because I always end up changing it once I get to the track. Ended up with 1600-800-400-400m with 400m jog recovery between reps (5:52, 2:57, 1:26, 1:25). The workout did not feel difficult but I wanted to be cautious so I didn't push it. I did hear the F-bomb at least 20 times by some really "cool" 15-year olds.

I like this variation of the mile-down. Replace that awful 1200 w/ a 400!

great workout -- i also like the elimination of the 1200.

interesting article. in high school, we once did a "seven mile death loop" that was more like 5.5 miles (it was still the days of pedometer technology). that fake seven mile loop led me to believe i could run seven miles, and in HS, that was considered a long run. an extreme feat! finishing it was a huge confidence boost, and that counts for a lot in HS.

and about cool 15 year olds: that was the phase when i burned all of my shoes by covering them in my teen hairspray, lighting them on fire, and then wearing the burnt shoes as a fashion statement.

I was going to do 16-8-4-2 so it would look prettier as a cut-down but I opted for the extra 400m instead. I just couldn't get myself to stop at 200m.

I really liked the article - it's amazing how the placebo response works EVEN WHEN you know it's a placebo. The mind is crazy.

Can you really light shoes on fire without them being destroyed? I kinda want to try it now!

so the trick with the burnt shoes (and what makes it fashion/art): you have to stomp the flames out at the right moment -- so the shoe is tastefully charred but still wearable.

Fascinating article! I think as a runner, convincing yourself that you can do something is a huge step in actually doing it.
