Long-Term Running Goals:
Have fun training and racing.
Sub-17 5K
Sub-1:17 Half Marathon
Quality for the Olympic Trials in the marathon
Personal:
I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.
I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)
I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.
PM - 1.5 miles around the block before the MRI. I wanted to make sure that the MRI showed how I look after a run. Not sure if that actually makes any sense, but it made me feel better.

I hope you got the pelvis MRI! I am confused as to why you got the spine MRI if you have pain in your hip. I aint no doc, but I think it is a good idea to actually get the place that hurts imaged :) Have you had a hip x-ray at all either? Femoral neck stress fractures can mimic some of your symptoms and are easy to rule out.

Yeah, stress fractures are what I am most worried about. Trust me, I was mad when he refused to let me have a hip/pelvis MRI. I told the nurse that was doing the MRI that I was upset about this and she said she would try to go a little lower for me. But that probably doesn't really mean much.

That is ridiculous! What does doc think the problem is if he is only concerned with your spine?

He is convinced that it's a disc problem. I'll find out today if he's right but based on the amount I exercise, my symptoms, and how the pain came on all point....it seems like there a lot more likely possibilities.

Looks like you might need a new doc. And something to think about just because I have gone through lots of this crap... If they do find you have a disc issue that might not actually be where the pain is coming from. Something like 40% of people imaged off the street have bulging discs most without any signs or symptoms.

This sounds a lot like the same exact conversation we had last night!

I KNOW!!!! UGH that's why I wanted both done. Do you have a recommendation for a doc??

Yup Petron at the U all the way!!! He helped find my hip problem despite my herniated L4/L5 issue I have had forever. He also gave me lidocaine injections to figure out where the actual problem was coming from, which I think is a pretty nifty idea. He is pretty much awesome and if you tell him how much you were running I am sure he would be x-raying and MRI-ing the crap out of that hip!

So even if the MRI does show some sort of disc issue, you think I should go to see him to make sure that's what is causing the problem?

I guess see what the MRI shows and go from there. There is just a pretty good chance it will show that there is some sort of disc issue...

Good luck with the MRI. I hope they can find out what is going on.
