Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - 2.2 mile warm-up then 6 miles at marathon pace with splits of 6:27, 6:23, 6:24, 6:24, 6:25, 6:24. Aerobically, this workout was not challenging - my breathing was under control and I felt very comfortable. At about 5.5 miles, I could feel a little strain in my hamstring and psoas muscle. So it seems that 30 minutes of tempo effort is about the limit for now. I'll take it for now!

Did yoga for the first time in about 3 weeks and it was tiring! Stretching is hard. Need to get back on the every day plan again.

So sad that Paula Radcliffe had to withdraw from the Olympic marathon. Her statement is worth a read.

PM - Ultimate frisbee practice...Garmin had it at 3 miles worth of walking, jogging, and running so I'll count it as 1.5 miles.

Perfect. I'm proud of you for keeping it in the right pace / effort range and not hammering just because you CAN.

Keeping the workouts dialed back to 80% for a month or so will allow you to stay healthy while gradually building the fitness up. Patience is the key.

From Lulu Walls on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:08:51 from 155.100.212.98

Yay! Nice workout this morning. I know someone that gives excellent psoas massages :)

From Andrea on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:12:26 from 72.37.171.52

Jake - Thanks! I had a couple thoughts about running a sub-6 in there, but I knew it wasn't smart. I was pretty impressed with how consistent the splits were. I only looked at the watch once per mile!

Lulu - Haha that's gotta be the most awkward muscle to get massaged!

From Jake K on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:20:52 from 155.100.226.54

No point is running super impressive workouts right now... if the goal is a marathon that is 4 months away. And that's the goal, right?!?!? RIGHT?!?!?! :-)

From Lulu Walls on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:23:08 from 155.100.212.98

A marathon?!?!? Do tell more :)

From Jake K on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:24:04 from 155.100.226.54

Its all just fun talk at this point. I shouldn't reveal too much of our potentially crazy ideas :-)

From Rachelle on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:34:51 from 199.190.170.22

You nailed this workout Andrea! Your ability to pace so consistently and not go all out is so incredibly impressive to me. When I grow up I want to be just like you! :)

Very very sad about Paula. What about Desi? I heard that she was thinking about withdrawing as well?

From Andrea on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:40:05 from 72.37.171.52

Rachelle - my guess is that Desi will at least start the marathon. She has a hip flexor injury. Apparently a couple days ago her coach said she was withdrawing on twitter and she wrote back - this is news to me! So who knows, Desi is a fighter.

From Jake K on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:42:47 from 155.100.226.54

And she will get a lot of $$$ for just running the first mile, even if she has to drop out. I can't see her not starting the race.

From Rachelle on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 09:53:55 from 199.190.170.22

That is a relief to hear. I was really worried they were going to have to call me up to take Desi's place and I'm not sure I'm ready. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and settle for TOU afterall. :-)

there is a lot of mourning about paula going on in our house.

...and tears for poorly worded sentences...

From Adam RW on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 10:58:30 from 128.110.237.12

Really nice splits. It is great to have such control. Was that on the road?

From Andrea on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 11:10:22 from 72.37.171.52

Allie - It's really a shame :(

Adam - Yes, it's on the road. There's a pretty flat 1.3 mile loop nearby that I do a lot of tempos on - my comfort loop. I need to branch out and get some hills thrown into my workouts, but I wanted to get a good feel for the effort level first. Maybe we should try to coordinate a few morning workouts, if you're interested! You too, Allie.

From Adam RW on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 11:13:59 from 155.101.152.123

I think that would be a good idea. I need to pin down my schedule. Sandra has really been running up a storm and her schedule, or threshold for switching things around, is a bit lower than mine. Would it be possible to do any later? What's the latest you will run in the evening?

From allie on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 11:15:14 from 161.38.218.168

i'm in.

From Andrea on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 13:05:21 from 72.37.244.100

The latest I will do a workout? Hmm...maybe 7-7:30pm? Lately I've been doing morning workouts just because of the heat and will get into evening workouts when it starts getting cooler and darker.

From Adam RW on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 13:07:33 from 155.101.152.123

I also prefer the morning workouts but Sandra will only run in the AM. So I'm stuck, someone has to be home with the kids. We'll figure out something and if not I'm sure Allie and you will have more than enough fun without me :)...

From Carina on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 15:54:11 from 204.15.86.83

Great tempo today!! So sad about Paula :(

From Teena Marie on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 16:22:01 from 67.2.96.50

WOW!!! As always, impressive. :)

Paula's statement was amazing! Thank you for sharing as I am not sure I would have seen it otherwise.

From ACorn on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 19:26:34 from 174.255.148.25

Great tempo run. Way to play it smart.

From Tara on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 12:02:08 from 75.169.154.70

Thanks for sharing. I think that takes a lot sacrifice to drop out and give to another if you plan to drop out or not perform near your ability. That would be hard to do for me. Especially for the mula, moola, mon-eh!

Sounds like you are being smart about your workouts. I have had a lot of success from my Physical Therapist. It's changed the way I look at all my runs and how I prep before and after each run. If you ever do choose to see this person (although I'm sure again there are good ones in your neighborhood) she is in the South Bountiful area.
