Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc. 

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

Well, it is officially the 6 week post-surgery mark. According to rehab plans, I am now at the point to resume regular activity. I am not even close to that, unfortunately. The areas where I had surgery feel pretty good, but I still have significant issues with the psoas muscle and right lateral hip. I'm sad because I still don't see myself running without pain any time soon. I truly believe that I have been smart about this injury and done everything that I know to get better. It's really frustrating. I'm tired of seeing progress as being able to "exercise" for 5 extra minutes - because really, walking and sitting on a bike are not exercise at all for me. I need to see true progress now, I need to run. 

PM - Well, after my semi-breakdown I had to try running again so I went out for 0.8 miles. Knee still feels a little wobbly but not terrible. Then went on a 4 mile bike ride with Jake. I was pretty achy by the end of the day but felt better mentally.

"Resume normal activity" actually means that you are now permitted to working towards resuming your normal activities. Meaning your surgical recovering restrictions have been lifted.

I think by seeing resume normal activity on the rehab plans makes you think you should be back to full function by then, when really it takes a heck of a lot longer than that.

I know it is frustrating and it super sucks, but try to celebrate the little progress-es because they are all going to add up to huge PROGRESS at some point.

I do wonder if I hadn't pushed myself so hard after my first surgery if I would have needed the second one. So this time I gave myself the extra time to heal and now look at me :) Granted it took 5 months, but bodies need time to heal.

"normal activity" for most people doesn't include running unfortunately. I know that is normal for you, but I think in time you'll get where you want to go! Keep up the good work, you are on the right track!

Even a 16 year old dog recovers faster than me! :)

I know I have to continue to be patient and not push the recovery. I just go on so many highs and lows, ups and downs with the recovery - feel super positive and optimistic one day then depressed the next. It's exhausting!

Sorry about the rollercoaster of issues. I mean, you might be just around the corner from beating this thing once and for all, but not knowing has gotta be the crappy part.

Can you box or do MMA while you're waiting? Maybe getting punched will make the psoas and hip not as bad by comparison.

Valid point, Joe. The other day I didn't realize the back hatch of my jeep was up and walked right into it, taking a great shot to the forehead. Forgot all about any other issues. Also forgot my name for a few minutes.

I m goi ng thru the same thing only idk if i will recover. I dont have a diagnosis yet. Lower back and rigbt heel. Muscles not cooperating. I take long to recover from activoty. Geez. I hope the best for u as u r still quite young :-)
