Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - 3 miles around the block. Planning to do some kind of workout some time today.

Fitness Day at work today - Olympics theme. 100 yard dash, race walking, obstacle course, javelin, long jump, etc.

PM - Drove to JRP but found a neighborhood loop instead that seemed more enticing for a workout. Had nothing planned for the workout except to start at marathon pace. Warm-up of 1.5 miles then 6:20, 6:21, 6:18, 6:14, 6:25, 5:40, 5:46, 5:45. So 5 miles at MP and 3 miles at 10K pace, 6:06 average overall. I felt awesome today - was really holding back until the sixth mile. It's these types of days when my training is rejuvenated and I get really excited about running again :) Most exciting thing about the run was no hamstring issues! I'm becoming a big fan of the "we'll just see how I feel" tempo workouts.

I simply cannot believe you are doing a javelin at work. It must be nerf, right? And how did I not find out about fitness day until late last night? I would have taken the day off from work!!! I want to do all those events!!!

From Chad Robinson on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 09:21:31 from 50.73.39.89

Especially the javelin.

My work had a hot dog eating contest for Fitness day.

You guys are always doing fun active things with your work. Good luck in your heptathlon!

From Lulu Walls on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 09:34:27 from 155.100.212.98

Wow your work sounds super fun! Is there any pole vaulting? Oh and are you guys hiring?

From Rachelle on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 09:50:22 from 199.190.170.22

I'm with Lulu....I want a job!! However I am doing good to screw a light bulb in (I have vaulted ceilings ookay!) so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't last 2 seconds in the engineering business.

I am expecting you to reign as champion at all events Andrea! You got this. :):)

Does people really get fired up for the olympics because of race walking???

You should try to get them to add in fencing and tug-of-war (yes, at one time it was a real olympic event).

I can't wait for the olympics - its the only time I get excited about television!

From DaleG on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 10:03:16 from 71.199.57.238

I don't get fired up for the Olympics because of race walking, but I have to admit, it was fun to watch during the last Olympics. They really haul you know what. I think the winner finished the 50k in 3 hours and some odd minutes. I was amazed.

From allie on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 10:46:55 from 161.38.218.168

you will all be excited about race walking when james race walks his way to a 15 flat at draper days this year.

the obstacle course sounds fun. they should start making actual races that incorporate obstacles. that would be so cool! i'm calling my investors now...

From Rob on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 10:56:55 from 204.15.86.95

I just made 1 billion dollars on my Facebook IPO investment so I'm in. Can we shoot stuff and blow stuff up too?

From Andrea on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 11:51:55 from 72.37.171.52

Update - javelin with a water noodle, two hamstring pulls in the 100 yard dash already (not mine - I ran 23s!), discus/frisbee toss, James would've crushed the race walkers, volleyball, etc. It feels like field day!! I wish Fitness Day was every day....

From Jake K on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 11:54:11 from 155.100.226.54

Great job - that's 2:57 marathon pace for 100 yards. I think you can call that a tempo run and take the rest of the day off.

From Kam on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 12:05:29 from 68.66.163.179

allie, I'd really like to talk with you about your obstacle course race idea. It sounds very promising. I'd love to get in on the ground floor of SOMETHING for once in my life. I have a suspicion this could really take off...

From Jake K on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 14:41:42 from 155.100.226.54

Wow great run today. I think this is the formula for getting in quality workouts w/ the hamstring issue- only progression runs! If you can only do one type of workout, there is nothing better. That's really moving to hit 5:40-45 pace for 3 miles at the end.

From Lulu Walls on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 15:26:03 from 155.100.212.98

Wow fitness day at work and you already did your PM run. Glad you are feeling awesome again!

From crhudman on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 16:49:50 from 71.39.209.182

I can see I'm not the only one that's in favor of unplanned tempo days (great run). Now how much work is involved in forming work olympics? I think we could start some at my work I already have 3 or 4 events in mind. Now are injuries during these events considered for workman's comp? That might be a killing factor.

From Hamdog Alum on Fri, May 25, 2012 at 06:06:53 from 71.82.247.163

I love the let's see how we feel progression runs. When battling injury they keep you safe.

I used to run all of my runs as either light, medium, or hard progression runs during my college base training (summer). It helps to increase mental toughness for the end of races when you get used to running the end of all your runs hard. My Fall CC season I went from a 26:30 8K guy to a consistent low 25:00 8K runner with a summer of progression training.

From Adam RW on Fri, May 25, 2012 at 08:34:14 from 155.101.152.123

Really nice workout. Looking forward to reading your 10K report!
