Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Just a super short shake-out run. I was going to do 2 miles but got frustrated because the Garmin was off by 0.2 miles this morning (doesn't take much, huh?). I think someone in our neighborhood has some kind of electronic device that messes up the signal because both Jake and I have had this problem. This run was just bonus miles anyway because I have a hard 8 mile tempo run this afternoon.

PM - I decided to do my workout during lunch, thinking that it might be a little cooler than this afternoon. It was hot - 80 degrees with the sun high in the sky. The Jordan River Parkway down in Sandy (9000S) is much different than that around 3300S - it has no shade at all! 2 mile warmup then I started out the tempo, planning to do a progression from 6:35 to 6:00. It was just not happening. I started telling myself at 4 miles "just stay around 6:30". Ran the 8 mile tempo in 51:40, 6:28 average (6:33, 6:25, 6:23, 6:25, 6:28, 6:27, 6:35, 6:25). There was a bit of a headwind on the way back. As soon as I finished, I chugged a 32 oz drink in about 30 seconds :) Although the workout wasn't quite what I wanted, it was a great marathon pace tempo and longest I have done in a long time! Can't be upset about that :)

A "progressive" 8 mile tempo run :-)

From Rachelle on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 09:39:33 from 199.190.170.31

I can totally relate. I am so irritable on Monday mornings! Good luck with your tempo this afternoon.

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 09:43:50 from 67.199.178.210

I think someone on my street used to have something that messed up my garmin 2 years ago. Merri and I both had the problem it seemed like.

8 miles later, yahooo!

From Andrea on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 09:52:02 from 72.37.171.52

Jake - "progressive" = "hard".

Rachelle & Lily - I'm a little nervous about the tempo b/c it's going to be HOT this afternoon! It'll be good, though, I just hate having to think about the workout for the entire day :( Mornings are bad for my back - I'd rather be completely loose than too tight!

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 09:57:15 from 67.199.178.210

My back is worse in the am too. Totally

One positive thing, the heat workouts later in the day will work to your advantage as we enter summer. You will be adapted sooner than the rest! :)

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 09:59:36 from 155.100.226.54

well, those of us who ran Boston are already heat acclimated for the next 3 years... including Andrea b/c she spent like 5 hours on the course that day! :-)

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:00:22 from 67.199.178.210

LOL!

From Rachelle on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:08:07 from 199.190.170.31

haha you would think I was acclimated but I still freaking hate the heat!

Andrea - You will do great this afternoon. Just think of how great of a tan you will get. :)

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:08:56 from 155.100.226.54

good point - gotta work on the tan to get ready for the beach!

From Andrea on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:09:42 from 72.37.244.100

Rachelle - I'm going to the beach (for a bachelorette party) in 11 days and I have the WORST sports bra/shorts/socks/capri tan! Maybe I should just run in my bathing suit this afternoon??

From Rachelle on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:18:28 from 199.190.170.31

Just run naked and then you wont have to worry about tan lines. And with the cops chasing you it will probably help with the tempo. :-)

From Andrea on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:31:11 from 72.37.171.52

Yes I'm sure that would fly over well, especially here in Utah. ModBod would call me up in an instant for modeling.

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:41:25 from 74.82.64.35

Spray on tan ;)

From allie on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:55:32 from 161.38.218.168

just start a new trend with the capri/sock tan line. tell your friends that's how it's done in utah.

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:59:59 from 155.100.226.54

Don't forget the crucial ski boots / short shorts tan line. That's my personal favorite.

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 11:05:40 from 67.199.178.210

I think this is the look you should go after:

From allie on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 11:11:07 from 161.38.218.168

that is exactly what i look like every year after running st. george.

Most comments I've ever seen for a 1.6 mile run.

From Chad Robinson on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 15:16:41 from 50.73.39.89

Nice average pace inspite of a not so progressive run. Sounds like you were running near my stomping grounds - there is no shade to speak of. I say wear the tan lines with pride.

From Rachelle on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 15:21:55 from 199.190.170.31

Great job Andrea and now you are done for the day and can go eat popsicles after work instead of running. :)

I think considering it's the longest tempo you've done in a long time and you were running at a completely odd time of day that your not used to you did exceptionally well.

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 15:29:17 from 74.82.64.34

Not what you wanted exactly but your effort was there. Its a lot harder running in 75-80 degree weather. Feels like forever since I've tempo'd! Oh, one of these days the frb needs to have its own race and have a drink chugging contest afterwards :)

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 15:29:22 from 155.100.226.54

50+ minutes of solid tempo running was perfect for today, especially in the heat. Excellent effort. Although its sad this is no longer a 1.6 mile run and you don't have the record for comments/miles ratio anymore.

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 15:30:54 from 74.82.64.34

Allie your comment made me laugh :-)

From allie on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 17:21:22 from 71.213.50.84

well done, andrea. definitely still a good workout. let me know the next time you do one of these during lunch on the JRP. i would be happy to bring you a sno-cone.

From Dan on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 17:24:18 from 24.209.83.20

Sorry I missed the 1.6 mile comment window, but nice run/workout. I 2nd or 3rd the tan look- go for it

From Toby on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 20:19:38 from 199.101.229.6

It was hot today! I never run well in the heat..hence my 4:30am runs. I need races that start that early too! Way to get it done despite the elements!

From Lulu Walls on Tue, May 15, 2012 at 21:41:21 from 166.70.240.95

Oooh I think we should have a contest at the end of the summer and award prizes for the craziest tan lines sort of like what Chaco does :)

From runningafterbabies on Tue, May 15, 2012 at 22:00:49 from 71.195.219.247

That sounded like a tough workout - the heat, midday, alone... and you nailed the MP miles. I wish I had done a couple training runs like that before Boston :) Nice work.
