Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Provo City 5K. Warmed up 2.5 miles and then ran 5-6 strides. Didn't feel great but that doesn't mean anything before a race. Was really worried about the course being accurate because the marks were way off, but it turned out fine (just glad I had a Garmin on for mile splits).

The race started with about 15 kids that took off with Jake. Threw my pace off at first but then settled quickly into 5:30ish. The first mile had a little hill, and I hit the mile split at 5:32. Nice gradual downhill for the rest of the race. I maintained a solid pace through mile 2 in 5:25. It got hard at this point, so I was just trying to hang in there for the rest of the race. Mile 3 was 5:30. Final stretch might have been a tad long, but I'm not complaining. 0:41 for a total time of 17:08.

I feel really good about this time. Although the course is a net downhill, it is several seconds slower than a flat sea level. So I'm on the right track for that sub-17!

Ran a 5 mile cooldown with Redd and Jake. Probably should've made this a long run day, but the timing didn't really work out well with the other races, awards, etc. Not a big deal - will run a little more later today and am planning a group long run next weekend.

Hung out at the crazy Provo-inspried Cinco de Mayo after party, complete with bounce houses, face painting, french toast, etc. Lots of friends ran today and many new PRs - Emily Bates, BrandonD, Fritz (kinda), Rachelle, Allie-and-James relay duo, and lots more I'm sure. Fun times!

Fantastic job, Andrea! Was this a 5K PR for you? I can definitely see that 16:XX coming soon.

From Jake K on Sat, May 05, 2012 at 13:25:22 from 67.182.215.126

17:08 is fantastic, especially on another solo effort. I see 16:4X on the clock this year when you get in the right race with the right competition. Believe it!!!

You are my running Idol Andrea! You ran an awesome race and I am going to have to start paying you (in icecream of course) to teach me to pace better. Great race today and yes sub-17 is in your very near future.

Did you play in the bounce house? Don't you know it was all just set up in honor of Jakes 28th Birthday. :-)

From RAD on Sat, May 05, 2012 at 14:44:43 from 98.202.23.178

Congrats on a nice win as well! Oh, and setting up that awesome after party for Jake's birthday. You are an A+ wife to throw a party like that.

Sweet! So close to sub 17 but I think you could do sub 16 on a track this year, in the bag.. Uh huh.

From catherine on Sat, May 05, 2012 at 16:00:35 from 98.202.112.38

5:30 miles! Wow! This is becoming the norm for you. That means I have to start some speed work, the Circuit is coming up and you just about beat me at the Minuteman last year..

Melody - it was an "altitude aided but not super aided" 5K PR. Whatever that means :)

Thanks guys for the congras!

Nice job today! I wish I could have run today. I tried to contact them and get them to switch me to the 5k, but I got no response even though I did it before the deadline.

Jen Hughes, who came in 2nd is my friend. She lives down this way. She won hobble creek last year. She is an excellent runner.

From Carina on Sat, May 05, 2012 at 21:07:31 from 204.15.86.83

Wow Andrea! So on your way to that sub-17. I am glad I wasn't bike pacing you on this one because even with the downhill I don't think I would have been able to keep up :)
