Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - I'M BACK!!! 2 mile warm-up then 6 mile tempo (6:22, 6:16, 6:12, 6:09, 6:06, 6:04). I felt awesome today - no pain in my back or my feet and I felt strong during the whole run. I hope this "feeling good" trend continues!

Because I've been really concerned about iron recently, I saw this article talking about when is the best time to take iron on workout days. It discusses that there is an absorbing-blocking effect and why - interesting.

"If you're supplementing iron, or consciously choosing iron-rich foods to keep your levels up (which is likely a good idea for many female athletes), you should try to time it so you're not taking the supplements in the six hours after a hard workout. Do it earlier or later in the day, so you're not fighting against this absorption-blocking effect."

Andrea - YOU ROCK!! This made me so happy to read. :)

Really happy for you. I figured if I told you to start off around 6:35 pace, you'd automatically go 10-15 seconds faster for the first mile, so that worked out well :-)

Seriously that is a really nice run. I was so stoked this morning to see that email with your splits. A big step forward. This should build confidence. Your body is starting to figure it out again. It took a while, and 5-6 smaller workouts where you struggled a but, but this shows what happens when you stay committed, stay focused, and think positive.

Did you do this on that rolling loop in the park again?

Woot!

Iron, I gotta get my levels checked. I am feeling very run down.

Yay great run! That is so exciting!!! This trend will totally continue.

I started taking an iron supplement yesterday now that you have me worried about iron levels now too. What do you take? I seriously felt like I was going to throw up for 3 hours after taking it ( with food). The one I bought said gentle and easy my @ss.

Taking iron at the right time is so tricky - so not after a hard workout, and not while eating ice cream because that blocks absorption as well. Its so difficult to find a period during the day where one of those two things isn't happening! :-)

That's awesome! Happy to hear that you are back! Great run! Now you've got me thinking about my iron again. I had a whole blood/iron analysis thing done in 2010 to get an insurance discount, but I never paid attention to any of the numbers.

Very impressive work today! That's gotta feel good! Super happy to see you feeling better.

Wasn't it just a few days ago we were talking about your starting point being higher for this next training cycle? I hate to say this, but I think the men were right for once! Way to hit a home run today. I'm really happy you're running pain free again too!!

From SlowJoe on Thu, Mar 29, 2012 at 18:02:37 from 69.131.141.92

Wow, that's a great tempo run - glad you are firing on all cylinders again.

Hamdog is right! Guys rule! And I completely realize I am only getting away with saying this because Andrea is on a different continent right now. :-)

Yes, you are an American or Brazilian Idol! Either one is very cool. Nice work!
