Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Ran 0.3 miles to the subway. Went to the same park as yesterday and ran loops again. I felt almost like my "old self" today. Tired legs but I could still move at a good pace. I would say this is probably only the 2nd run since the marathon that I have felt good. Average 7:15 pace for 8 miles. Then took the subway back and ran to the hotel.

I am very excited for you that you felt good! Everything is going to be okay with you this year, I just know it. You're on the up and up! :)

So so happy to hear that you felt good Andrea! That is just awesome.

Glad to hear you are getting back to normal. Can you do PT on the subway? I think I would do calf raises.

So cool that I don't have to go to page 12 of the mileage board anymore to find your blog :-)

Seriously though - the last 3-4 weeks have been a real nice progression. I think you are actually ahead of where you were at this point a year ago, even though you probably don't believe me... I looked through your log from March/April 2011 - trust me, you couldn't even break 40 seconds for 200s in April last year! And last year you ran 17/1:17/2:49... so things are moving forward nicely. Just don't expect it all to come back at once - you'll have a couple great days, then some where you feel like crud. A couple steps forward, one step back, couple more steps forward again.

I actually think the Subway break helped. I get a short warmup, stretch for 10 minutes, then run. Much better than wake up and run 5 minutes later!

I really hope that I start having more and more runs where I feel good. 4 months is a long time to feel bad.

I might be at a better spot, but I'm missing a lot of the base training and long runs that I had at this time last year. We'll see...

From Jake K on Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 10:43:05 from 155.100.226.54

Last year didn't happen in a black hole that disappeared once the calendar switched over to 2012. Your baseline set point moved up A LOT. Like a ridiculous amount. You'll see :-)

From Andrea on Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 10:46:37 from 72.37.171.52

I feel like there were 3-4 black holes that took it all away!

The guys were bragging at work today about their sub-4 marathons then asked what I ran. Put them in their place!! Although they seemed surprised...I must not look like a marathon runner???

Nice miles at a good pace, glad you're recovering.

For the record, you look like a runner.

From allie on Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 15:41:23 from 97.126.223.167

you definitely look like a runner.

i'm so glad you felt good today. i've gone through the "feeling crappy for four months" syndrome. when you finally have that great run, it's absolutely awesome.

you are back. (and jake is right, there was no black hole!)

From Hamdog Alum on Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 18:44:40 from 24.240.65.116

You have a really solid week of training going! I'm so glad you are starting to feel good enough to do some workouts. 3x1 mile is never an easy workout when running fatigued - NICE WORK!

Oh and Jake is absolutely right about your baseline. Just make sure not to rush the process, take those easy days easy so you can soak in the fitness. Do that and you'll be where you want A LOT faster than if you force it.

From Tara on Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 20:57:39 from 75.169.143.129

Yea for feeling good! Love these runs. Good for you Andrea:)

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 27, 2012 at 21:15:54 from 71.219.85.126

I only read one thing there----feeling like your old self! That has made my day! I hope it stays that way. ;o) IT WILL, IT WILL, IT WILL.
