Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Found a different park in Sao Paulo that is closer to my hotel. Only a 0.9 loop around but that was good for mile repeats. The goal today was 4 x 1 mile at 5:50 pace. This ended up being way to ambitious for my current fitness! Ended up running 3 x mile (5:44 - too fast, 5:54, 5:56) the 4 x 200 (5:56 pace). I felt like I had a lot of fatigue in my legs, probably from walking around yesterday for 7 hours after a 10 mile run. I have also been building my mileage pretty steadily over the last month. I'm a little disappointed in the workout but I need to remember that I'm only beginning to do workouts and it takes time to get speed and endurance back.

PM - 3.3 miles easy. Had some time to kill before dinner so I took it to the streets. Can't say it was a pleasant run..I spent most of the time dodging cars and people and doing circles around the block.

Some cool photos from Sao Paulo -

Really neat wall art.

Check out this cemetery! Quite the dramatic statues...

You aren't giving yourself nearly enough credit... you haven't run at that kind of pace for longer than 200 meters in MONTHS... 5:50 was a really ambitious goal, and you still averaged 5:51! On top of the fact that you have been traveling non-stop and were on your feet ALL weekend.

I'd say this is not a disappointing effort, but rather a BIG STEP FORWARD in the right direction! :-)

Really cool pictures too - can't wait to see the rest from your weekend.

I agree with Jake, that is one awesome workout. I think speed work while traveling is always harder for some reason. Awesome pictures!!!

Wow Andrea I think that the mile repeats were great considering you haven't done anything like that in such a long time. And you are in a completely new area with new roads ect..

Awesome pictures! Thanks so much for sharing.

Nice work! With a healthy body and and some good miles in the bank, you'll be cranking out those mile repeats at blazing speeds in no time.

Great workout. Love the pics, if those pics were around here, someone would come by and cover them up thinking they were just graffiti.

avg 5:51?!?! That is pretty darn good. I think you have nothing to worry about at all.

Love the pictures. I hope you are having a great time. Relax and take it all in! :)

More beautiful pics! Great job getting in sub 6 miles, you're still in awesome shape.

ditto Jake! Nice job keeping up on the workouts while out of town! Love the pics, keep 'em coming!

In a few weeks after some you are able to run with more speed and endurance you'll be able to look back at today and appreciate the progress you make :)

And great pictures! Thanks for sharing :)

Agree with Jake, agree the pics are amazing. Looks to me like 5:50 was close to the right goal, even with your fatigue, but the 5:44 got you a bit. You were close anyway. Part of workouts are to teach (or reteach) how to put out even effort, patience at the beginning. I am amazed how I get to relearn the same lessons over and over. Welcome back!

I know how frustrating it can be to come back and have it be so hard to even get times that aren't even close to what you've done in the past, but know this: your fitness will come back. Your workout proves you are on your way!! Nice job.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. Someday I hope I can complain about running in the 5's :)
