Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Well, the cold sickness finally made its way to me. Lots of sneezing, sniffling, and head pressure last night and this morning. Met up with Devra early and ran 8.5 miles at about 7:30 pace. Felt pretty good while I was running, then proceeded to sneeze about 10 times in a row after stopping and 30 times in the next hour.

Two thoughts today -

1) How come gyms have a sauna, steam room, and hot tub, but not cold therapy treatment? A cold tub would be very beneficial.

2) What do you think of this idea? I have an acquaintance that is trying to market them for races..

I always jump in the lap pool at Lifetime, it's not 55 degrees, but they keep it pretty cold.

I don't think those lids would work cause you can't stack the cups. I think it's a great idea for the runner but not the aid station volunteers.

Agree with you Rob. Andrea showed this to me yesterday and I thought the same thing - for runners, this would be awesome... but how many extra volunteer-hours would be needed to make this system work? Probably a significant amount.

umm I think this cup idea is genious!! I am famous for pouring water all over myself and getting about 1 tsp worth at each aid station in my mouth. ha! Good point about the aid stations and volunteers though. hmmm

I hope you feel better soon Andrea. Stupid colds!

I love that idea. I am never able to get the drink down without inhaling a portion and leaving some all over my hands and shirt. I would even be willing to pay a little more for a race if they were using these.

Hmmm....if I can not drink out of a sports bottle successfully while maintaining forward motion, this cup will probably not help me.

Sorry you are not feeling well, I hope it passes quickly for you!

My guess is they don't have cold therapy because of lack of demand. Nice running with the sniffles, hope you are feeling better.

I totally agree, Andrea. There should be cold therapy pools. They probably aren't as popular because a cold bath isn't very snuggly.

I think the lid is a great idea, but I think there's another issue other than the one's listed above. The issue is, what size do you make them? and how to convince race directors to buy them? Races are generally for profit or for charity or a combo, and costs are a big factor. Cups are often donated, thus you get a wide range of cup sizes. I remember getting water from a wide mouthed hogi yogi frozen yogurt bowl during a provo race once. It was crazy. The worst design for a runner. The width and shallowness made it hard to keep the liquid in the bowl while trying to ingest. Were they considering the runners when they decided to use these cups? Nope. They were thinking that they would take what they could get. Hogi Yogi serves drinks so has cups, but they donated bowls for the race, so bowls were used. go figure.
