Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - So thankful that Allie was willing to join me for pool running. Made it to an hour today!

Today was the first day in 4 months that I woke up without any pain. The steroid is finally working! Maybe the doctor is right and I just had so much inflammation that I haven't been able to heal. I'm on day 11 of 12 of the prednisone, so I'm really worried that the pain is all going to come back as soon as I'm off it. So I decided to start an anti-inflammatory diet...it's not a lot different from what I currently do, but I'm adding tart cherry juice, salmon, a lot more fruits and vegetables. No candy, ice cream, or refined carbs for a while.

That is wonderful Andrea! I'm very happy for you. Jake mentioned during our run this morning that you woke up with no pain today. Sure hope that is your new norm!

Great news Andrea! Pain, Pain go away.

The tart cherry juice sounds healthy. I wonder if the nutritional value would change if I added a cup of sugar.

Too bad it's not Lent :( I'm so glad you woke up pain free. I think you are on the brink of breaking this pain (in the bum) cycle.

Pain Free!! That is what Jake told me this morning! Wow, I can't believe you have been living in constant pain for 4 months!! I am sorry :( But maybe things will finally get better and better!!

Glad you had a pool buddy this morning! Being the only girl with 32 other guys was great, but it would have been so much more fun with you there!

I know I've sent you this link before, but now I think you are ready for it :) Yay for more veggies!!!

Isn't it so sad that ice cream isn't "anti-inflammatory"? Its cold...so it should be, right? I'm glad to hear you are on the up and up. I hope you continue going the right direction!

I like your discipline with everything, you definitely seem to go about things the smart way. Hope the skiing was good!

You have such motivation Andrea! I am glad you are feeling pain free today. Way to go on the pool running! I know how difficult it is to run in the pool. If you wear a headband you can clip your ipod to it and listen to music. Just make sure you don't go under water. ;)

Dr. Weil looks like he needs to take a glance at his own food pyramid, and probably head out for a good old fashioned hard 20 miler as well :-)
