Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Ran with Jake except for a couple walk breaks to keep problems at bay - 2.2 miles of running. I'm now at 7 weeks of injury with no real improvement overall. It's getting harder and harder to stay positive, especially because I'm seeing no progress. It seems less likely to me that this is merely a muscular issue. I decided to keep an appointment (that I was originally going to cancel) with physiatrist today just because I'm willing to try anything at this point. I'm getting tired of posting depressing and unexciting blog posts!!! But I know it's important to have this information in the future when I look back and say - thank goodness that's over!

PM - Saw the physiatrist. He did an evaluation and could not give a conclusive diagnosis. I have too many symptoms that don't match up with reflexes, strength tests, etc. So we went over options - medication (done), PT/exercises (done), modification of exercise (done), injections, or alternative medicine (acupuncture, herbal, etc). So I might as well give the injections a shot, and the doctor performed  the procedure right then...if this doesn't work, I'm leaving it all up to Teena Marie! :)

Best of luck with your appointment today Andrea.

Hang in there Andrea! Sometimes life is brutally un-fair. I'm sending prayers your way!

What the heck is a physiatrist? At first glance it looked like psychiatrist :) What kind of injection did you get?

From NatalieK on Mon, Sep 17, 2012 at 18:35:36 from 24.2.101.184

Ha, I totally read psychiatrist at first too! This low mileage thing really IS making you crazy huh?

I think the next doctor I'll need to go to after all this is a psychiatrist!

I had never heard of the physiatrist before either...I did look it up to make sure it was real before I went!

I believe it was just a steroid injection to serve as a nerve block.

Lime disease can really mess people up and it's hard to put a finger on. We have a real problem with it here in WI, but I don't know about your neck of the woods. If you haven't had tests done for it, maybe it would be worth it? I hate to post something like that, because I don't intend to worry you about those kind of things. I just want to see you get healthy. There is always that outside chance you're injury isn't related to running.
